I was taken here by someone who really enjoys good food and only likes to eat in places that have good reviews, so I was expecting some very delicious food. Set on the outskirts of Bute Park, it is a little confusing to get to but once inside you feel very welcome. HOWEVER, I felt completely let down by the quality of the food.
I ordered the soup and a burger. I was expecting the soup to come first, the same as in a normal restaurant setting, however it arrived at the same time as the burger which overwhelmed me slightly.
Firstly the soup - leek, pea and potato. Quite tasty, evidently home-made served with a white sliced roll which unfortunately was not home-made.
Next the burger - I may be alone in this opinion but if a burger is on a restaurant menu, I expect a home-made burger. This was clearly not, about 1cm in thickness, it looked and tasted evidently prepackaged. It was served with the normal burger additions - bacon, cheese, salad, tomatoes, salsa and chopped peppers. These additions made it marginally tastier. It came with frozen chips and a handful of salad. Overall, this was a very disappointing dish. Although very cheap, I was hoping for much more.
I opted for a dessert, hoping the cafe would redeem itself. The Mississippi Mud Pie was tasty enough. However, it was clearly de-frosted as the cream was rather hard and the pastry was soft and fell apart easily.
Although the people serving are lovely, the food was not and I would not recommend this if you're after quality. If you want decent enough food for a good price, then this is the place to go. However, they are plenty of other much better places locally.
