“Lovely hotel in ideal location”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

Lovely hotel in perfect location for the city centre, castle, SWALEC, Millenium stadium and Sophie Gardens. Very friendly, helpful staff. Nothing was too much trouble. We stayed just one night and had a compact double room which was absolutely delightful. We will definitely stay here when we come back to Cardiff. J from Bedfordshire

This was our visit to a boutique hotel and first impresions were really good. Nice big room, very nice bathroom with mood lighting and large bath/shower and attentive service. Hotel in a good position for town and both free parking and free wi-fi. Room very warm on arrival so we opened windows wide, since there is no air conditioning.

2 course meal was part of deal and unfortunately the ribeye steaks we chose were poorly cooked, with both chips and steak barely warm. The waiter was very helpful in sorting this out.

On returning to our room, no.203, the room was still very warm despite the windows being open and we put fan on to try and cool things down. The room is above kitchen and there seemed to be people in and out of there through the night so we needed to close windows because of the noise from road and from downstairs. But doing this made the room like a sauna. About 1am I moved to sleep on floor next to door to try and cool down. The worst nights sleep in a hotel room I have ever experienced.

This was such a shame since the hotel is really very nice.

Room Tip: Don't book 203 unless you like it hot

We had an overnight stay in August. On arrival we were shown to our room. This had the 'wow' factor' - the ensuite with its subdued lighting, and space to swing several cats. The evening meal was included and came with 1/2 bottles of champagne - all very nice. Breakfast the next morning was more than adequate and set us up for a days shopping in the city centre which is only a short walk away.

Stayed one night last week as down in Cardiff for a meeting.
Very nice hotel - room not overly large but very well laid out with great bathroom and shower.
Had a meal in the bar - very good food.
Service was excellent - staff passing by asking if everything was ok with food etc.
Car park was a bit tight but at least there was a space!
Will definitely stay again and hope to get a room upgrade next time as I seem to hear lots of people getting this offer!

Stayed one night, room was furnished nicely but rather oddly arranged. Lots of wasted space.Bathroom not big enough for a full size bath so half size bath(why bother?!) and waterfall overhead shower.Neither worked well in the room as the shower screen didn't prevent water spraying everywhere. Rather alarming to realise that unless blind pulled right down you were able to be seen from neighbouring office blocks! Nice towels and toiletries but clearly not been thought through as a bathroom by the designers/owners.. Definitely style over sense here
Bed was lovely, nice linen, rather warm so a fan would have been a great addition to get some air flow but I do realise Cardiff weather doesn't justify spending on aircon and the underfloor heating etc would have been great in winter. No bedside table one side of the bed which was a little odd
We went to eat in the bar but they'd run out of several things(inc steak) and offered a "special" which sounded like a series of small portions of things they didn't have enough to serve up as full portions -most strange!
Anyway we went to the mochyn du a short walk away on the advice of the staff and enjoyed a nice evening there.
Such a shame it didn't live up to the promise of the reputation/website.. Nice stay, wouldn't be put off returning but for a supposed "boutique" hotel it really needs some work to put it into that category. We skipped breakfast next day, it wasn't included anyway and decided we'd rather stay in bed!

This hotel is fantastic. Everything was comfortable and clean. The bathoom was great, with a nice big tub. The staff couldn't have been more helpful, first with saving me a spot in the car park and then upgrading my room. Everything is withing close walking distance. I would definitely return.
