4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 17, 2013

I normally travel to Cardiff 2/3 times a year so I knew on booking the hotel is in a great area right by Cardiff castle and very handy for the shopping avenues.
stayed for 2 days and our room was large, clean, the bed was massive and very comfortable!
let down by a few mishaps with check in and room service and I think this was due to poor communication between staff however the receptionist who dealt with us and the bar staff were very friendly.
its worth noting that we were there on a Saturday night in December (party season) and when we arrived back around 11pm there were parties in full swing and we were slightly worried about noise seeing as our room overlooked the entrance but we needn't have worried as we didn't hear a thing and slept great

Room Tip: rooms at the front of the hotel have lovely views over the castle and bute park

Thanks for posting your review, sorry there was a mix up with some parts of your stay, hopefully nothing that detracted too much.

Nice to hear you got a great nights sleep, and that overall you had a good stay.

I like the location of this hotel, lovely views across to Cardiff Castle, next door to the Millinieum Stadium, and only 10 minute stroll into the town centre. Upgraded our room, which was very nice, clean and confortable, I like using the dressing robes they have in the higher grade rooms. Housekeeping were particularly helpful when the TV remote control stopped working!

Staff efficient and friendly, good location a few minutes from the city centre. Comfortable clean room on the 6th floor. It's a shame that there is an overnight parking charge after paying 89.00 room only but apart from that very good.

I was pleasantly surprised by the standard of this hotel. The staff were very efficient, friendly and welcoming. Our room was immaculate and the beds were very comfortable. We ordered room service as we arrived quite late in the evening and I was impressed by the quality of the food, the speed of service and the price. Breakfast was a buffet, I'm not a big eater in the morning but was impressed by the choice. The food I did have (croissant, toast, fruit and tea) was ok. The only negative of our stay was that our room was uncomfortably hot. Although the room was "air-conditioned" I couldn't get the room to cool down.

It is really pleasant to hear how great you found the team here, to couple with the hotel facilities.

The air conditioning in winter months is set to certain temperature range as in many hotels and does not actually give a cooling function.

Thank you for your review and i do hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back.

kind regards

This was my 'home' for 3 and a half weeks - whilst on a training course for my new job. First impressions very good - spacious and airy reception area with informative and attentive staff. Room on 3rd floor - whilst not huge, was well equipped but with a HUGE bed!!!! Pillows to order if required too!! Small but functional bathroom - with heated towel rail (great for drying smalls!!!!) LCD tv with various functions -ie wake up and checking your bill. One downside was having to pay for Internet -£5 for an hour!!!! - as a previous Holiday Inn I've stayed in didn't charge and just gave a code to gain access!! Food was satisfactory - breakfast plentiful and plenty of choice ( they do a wicked porridge to your liking on request!!!) Dinner would have been a bit repetitive if our group had eaten there each night for the whole 3 and half weeks of our training - so sorry we did venture into the city for a bit of variety. Laura, the operations manager did come to speak with our group, to see if the hotel could accommodate our needs as we were staying for an extended period of time. Thank you!!! The reception staff were all very helpful -sorry for not remembering all
your names!!!! And Loretta in the restaurant was fab - always really friendly and attentive to our needs ( her boyfriend Pedro also works there and was quiet but very pleasant!) the other staff also were great- again sorry for not remembering your names!!
The rooms are reasonably well equipped, with a safe ( to most rooms, on 3rd floor anyway!) iron and ironing board- not that I used them as life is too short!!!, ,hairdryer ( tho I always bring my own) , good amount of hanging space and chest of drawers, air conditioning, supply of basic toiletries, and tea and coffee making facilities - plus hot chocolate if you ask!!!!
Location is excellent - close to railway station, Millennium stadium, Cardiff Castle, and city centre - not that we had much chance to see a lot of Cardiff due to our intense training course schedule. We did have a few problems with a taxi company that the hotel uses for guests (not hotels fault at all!) In fact Laura, the operations manager, having heard of our problems with said firm (Dragon Taxis) contacted them to request they have a meeting with the hotel to both raise issues we had experienced and reiterate their business relationship.
All in all, a good, clean, functional hotel, with attentive and knowledgable staff, who care about your stay there.
I am already planning a return visit - with my husband and son - so I can actually see a bit of Cardiff!!!!!

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on 3rd floor as they have been refurbished and are quite modern!!

Thank you for your review, and for taking the time and trouble to be so detailed.

It is really nice that you have found the staff so attentive, and given the length of stay that is not just a snap shot either.

I look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel, in the future, please do make contact personally with either myself or Laura when you are making your next booking

I chose this hotel for 2 reasons. 1. We had never been to Cardiff before, and 2. I had accumulated a lot of holiday Inn points on business trips.
The hotel itself is a little old and perhaps slighty tired, but all made up by the location. Easy walk to the city centre, and access to all the shops.

The first night we ate in the restaurant, which was pretty much standard Holiday Inn fare, not very impressive.

However, the weekend breakfasts at £7.50 are great value, and lots of choice.

The hotel is like many of the Holiday Inns now, and a little dated, however it is right in front of Cardiff Arms Park and the Millenium Stadium so is well located. I stay here alot and the hotel is not so good at the little things such as; 50% of the time I have stayed here (14 nights in last 12 months) one of the two lifts has been out of action, order a paper at reception and it does not get delivered to the room (again this week), the car park is very tight at the rear of the hotel and not adequate for the hotel size, so if you turn up between 4 and 6 on a day with conferences you cant get in, I am still waiting for November priority points to be added, and each time you register at reception with Priority check when you leave that they have it on the account, they have yet been able to get priority club information from the form to the computuer during any stay, and at all costs avoid the 6th floor as a) with only one lift it will take you an age to get anywhere and b) there is no water pressure at all, the shower spray barely reaches bath taps, breakfast is very good though and the mixed grill comes with a huge salad which is unusual.

Room Tip: Don't choose anything on floor 6 if you like a good shower!

I am really sorry certain aspects of your stay were not as they should have been, please be assured we will checked your PC account and ensure it is up to date with correct points.

We have now completed some major works on our lifts , and are assured by our service contractors that we should suffer no more lapses in service.

Thank you for your comments
