A nice, comfortable hotel.

It's about a 10 minute walk to the lower end of the city centre or a few minutes drive (John Lewis car park is probably the closest you'll get). The bar and restaurant staff were friendly and very helpful. Rooms fine - usual generic furniture with very comfortable bed and a small tv. Room was noisy during the day and evening but was quiet through the night. (We had family staying in another room in the older block who heard the service lift all night).

Shower was disappointing as had no pressure whatsoever.

Charge applies for wi-fi and it didn't work in our room at all. They also charge for car parking.

It's worth checking a number of websites for prices as these seem to vary considerably!

Room Tip: Make sure you're not in the old section beside the service lift - even executive rooms are adjac...

I've stayed at the Novotel in cardiff quite a few times before, but not for about 2/3 years.
Stayed for 3 nights friday - Monday at the beginning of December, due to the huge price rise on the Saturday night because of the rugby I booked a standard room - it actually cost more to stay on the Staurday night than it did for Friday & Sunday added together!
Arrived at around 1pm and was allocated a room straight away, check in officially 2pm, so all good. The car park was busy but we got a space, it does cost £8 to park for 24hrs, and yes it is a bit anoying to pay when your a guest but it is cheap compaired to other Cardiff hotels.
When checking in we were given a wedding anniversary card and inside was a complimentary drinks voucher (as I had noted on the booking form that we were celebrating). A nice touch from Novotel!
Reception was clean, tidy and receptionist was friendly & helpful.
Allocated room 412 and was a little dissapointed. On previous stays a standard room was fine and I have thought not really worth upgrading, but now the standard rooms are looking a little shabby, there were a few marks on the walls and the carpet had a big stain on it, not to the same standard as a few years ago.
On the plus side there were plenty of clean towels, extra pillows in the wardrobe and plenty ot tea & coffee and toiletries.
The bed was comfy, but I was disturbed by noisy people coming back in the early hours shouting and singing - not what I expected from a nice four star hotel!
The breakfast is fabulous, waiter service for tea & coffee, but you then help yourself to a vast array of hot and cold food. Plus the times are excellent, I think breakfast is available to 11am on weekend mornings, if not 11am it's 12noon.
Unfortunatly we did not have time to use the leisure facilities so cannot comment on these.
We did not eat a meal at the restaurant but did have a nice quiet drink in the bar - which was even better when it was complimetary!!

The hotel is not right in the centre of Cardiff but is only a 10minute walk from John Lewis & the Motorpoint Arena. I enjoy the location as I am happy to walk a short distance in trade for the quiet area - no road noise or people falling out of pubs and clubs. If you don't like walking you can get a taxi foir only a few £'s and reception will organise it for you.

All in all it was an enjoyable stay and I would reccommend and stay again - although in a higher grade room which are located in the older half of the building.

Room Tip: Upgrade to the better rooms located in the older half of the building

Had a one night stay for myself and two nights for my parents. Dad uses a wheelchair and despite asking for a disabled room it was a bit of a problem. There was no walk in shower and anyone with mobility problems would not have gotten into the bath.
Restaurant is closed on a Sunday night although food was available in the bar.
If there is a function on the noise is pretty loud and if you happen to be in a room on the floor above, god help you.
Breakfast was good as was the cleanliness and friendly staff.
Wi-fi is payable and the phone signal was not great. There was a couple of MAC's in the lobby for people to use.
Would stay again but might look for somewhere with free wi-fi!

Thank you for your review. I am pleased that overall you had an enjoyable stay and i note your comments with regard to walk in showers. We do have accessible rooms at Novotel Cardiff, with many mobility aids for various disabilities but i apologise that on this occasion, your Dad found this an inconvenience.

I am pleased that you found the service friendly and the cleanliness good and hope that on your next stay, we can leave you with a much better impression of the hotel.

Kind regards

The hotel was nice and clean with an inviting reception and bar area. The room was spacious and had plenty of space for our baby's pushchair. The bed was not particularly comfortable and the sofa bed was very uncomfortable.
The swimming pool at the hotel was very nice and clean. The water was not particularly warm for very young children. There is a small gym which can be used too.
There is not much to see from the hotel but it is a short walk into the middle of the city centre. Cardiff has lots of nice shops and restaurants to choose from.

My partner and I stayed at this hotel for two days in late Dec 12. We arrived by taxi from Cardiff central railway station which was a short 5 min ride. Upon check in we found the reception staff to be very cheery, professional and eager to be of service, warm smiles all round. We made our way to our room on the 3rd floor, on entering we were very impressed with size of the room. It was very modern, clean and inviting. The king size bed was wonderful and comfy as was the bed linen. Wifi is not free however, there are apple computers in the lobby which are for the use of hotel guests including free Internet. The bathroom is very modern and appealing. There is a separate bath shower and plenty of space to move around, the toiletries are the standard offerings at Novotel properties worldwide. The bath linen is adequate and reflects appropriately the 4 star rating. There is a comprehensive minibar and great tea, bickies and coffee offerings. The TV is a large flatscreen and was of a better than average quality. We ate in on two occasions and found both the service and food quality to be very good indeed. Our room rate included buffet breakfast and this was absolutely fantastic!; well prepared and generous offerings with great and friendly service to complete a sensational breakfast experience. Overall I really liked this hotel, it's position in relation to downtown Cardiff is a little off the beaten track and commands a 10 min walk to the city centre. That said it is a lovely quiet location only 10-15 mins walk to lovely Cardiff bay in the other direction. I should also mention that they have a stunning indoor pool which looked most inviting. One small criticism however, upon requesting an umbrella for a rainy days sightseeing none was available, this should be quickly rectified in a city as wet as Cardiff.

My wifeand I stayed for one night as a treat and break in January shopping!!
Extremely friendly staff, we loved the modern decor and furniture but best was the way old 'warehouse' features had been utilised. We shall definately return!

Room Tip: Avoid 209 as some noise from units down below.
