My Children being big Dr Who fans we decided to treat them to this experience. The tour was longer than advertised and i wished we were informed at the start. Matt the tour guide was very good and a complete Dr Who geek. A good afternoon seeing where film shoots had taken place which my children totally enjoyed. Myself i did start to get a little tired towards the end.

Great tour for avid fans, not for casual viewers or smaller children i would say as visit many locations and if you arent a big fan i think it would be boring. loved the fact that Matt had clips of the locations to refresh your memory while on the bus. he was a great guide, had many stories of his own experiences as an extra on doctor who.didnt think there was anyone who loved doctor who as much as my teenage son but i was wrong-Matt does!!
not too expensive, can use a voucher for 2 for 1 if you travel to cardiff by train and prebook with brit movies.
a must for any doctor who fan, just wish we could have done the walking tour too.
lasted nearly 4 hours.

We've just got back from a great couple of days exploring Cardiff and generally having a big Dr Who/Torchwood geek out!
The bus tour was fantastic! Matt the guide knew his stuff, and told us some stories which were interesting and funny- really setting the scene and sharing things with us that you would never get to know otherwise!
The tour lasted closer to 4 hours than 3 as advertised, but an extra hour of a tour is hardly something to complain about!
Would recommend it to any fans- you're certainly going to have a good time!

We thought this tour was brilliant and the guide was a real fan, with great behind-the-scenes stories. He set the scene for each stop with video-clips from the series and was able to answer every question we could throw at him. (he even invited the whole group back to his friends place to watch the latest episode with them !) There were plenty of chances to take photos and Matt also encouraged us to mock up scenes - he even got one couple doing a bit of acting. Definitely one for the fans (rather than casual tourists) but if you love the series, it's well worth combining with a visit to the Dr Who Experience. And if you have any questions you've been burning to ask, then this is your chance to get them answered !

My kids, ages 10 & 13 are BIG Doctor Who fans -- in fact, that's largely what brought us to Cardiff. So when I learned that there were tours of shooting sites around the city, I figured we simply had to do that. BritMovieTours runs bus tours on some weekend days in the spring, but our few days in Cardiff didn't coincide with one of them. So we booked a private tour, which was four hours of exploration of a variety of Doctor Who sites, partly on foot in the city center, and partly via minivan with a driver and guide.

Matt, our tour guide, was a very knowledgeable, indeed borderline obsessive, Doctor Who fan, and a good guy. He's been a walk-on in a number of episodes, and has some stories of his brief encounters with some of the shows stars. And we saw a great number of sites around the city that have played a role in Doctor Who, from Amy's village, to Koch Castle, to downtown buildings, to Rose Tyler's apartment block, to the church where Donna planned to get married, to Sarah Jane's house, and so on. Matt often had stills or sometimes brief DVD excerpts of the site, and that was definitely a nice touch.

Overall, I thought it was very good, but not great and given the hefty price tag, it should have been absolutely tops. It was a lot of fun to see the sites, and Matt certainly knows a lot. But I thought he was more of an A+ fan than an A+ tour guide. In our time traveling in the UK, we had a few tour guides who were just so terrific at both storytelling and connecting; and I thought Matt was decent at these things, but, honestly, not first rate. It may just not have been his very best day; he seemed a little distracted at times, and didn't do as much as he might have to connect with the kids and engage them in conversation. In addition, the driver of the van was apparently new to the job, and one of the back doors of the vehicle didn't open, which meant that we often had to exit on the side of the car with traffic. Not a huge deal -- but when you're paying around $400 for an afternoon-long private tour, it should really all be seamless and absolutely 100 percent professional, and so these relatively minor details were a little bit annoying. Also, some of the group tours mention a DW quiz -- my kids would have loved that, but there wasn't any quiz for them that afternoon.

Overall, Matt definitely knows a ton about the show, and I'm very glad we had the experience. But I think a bit of tweaking could have made a 4 star experience into a 5 star experience.
