“Cracking little Italian”
Reviewed February 22, 2012

This is a really good family run Italian restaurant right in the city centre. The menu isn't huge, mainly consisting of antipasti, pastas, a few salads and great pizzas from a wood burning oven.
The prices are very reasonable for town and I'd pick this place over any of the Italian chains near by.

“Just what we were looking for!”
Reviewed February 21, 2012

We decided to have a short break in Cardiff for the first time and were delighted to find Cafe Citta in the centre of town. It was such a relief to find an independent restaurant and quality food. We booked a table for 18.15 and let the manageress, Diane, know that we needed to be at the theatre for 19.30 and she assured us that there would be no problem as our freshly prepared food would be ready in 12/15 minutes. The short wait was worth it as the food was hot, full of flavour, well-presented and without fuss. We could see the food being prepared and cooked as the kitchen is based at the end of the narrow room.
We knew we would not have time for dessert but asked about the choices. Unfortunately, they no longer make their own ice cream but they did have at least two home-made choices on the menu. We asked if they would still be open about 22.00 after the theatre and if there was any chance of returning for a dessert and to finish our bottle of wine. Diane was more than happy to accommodate us even though the last customers would be finishing and the staff may even be tidying up. She even let other staff know that we may be returning in case she was not available.
We returned and they were waiting for us and were SO patient while we enjoyed a tiramisu and carrot cake, finished our wine and then dared ask for a coffee! No problem, and what a wonderful coffee to finish off a great evening.
Thank you Cafe Citta and we hope to return soon.
Readers, please do not be put off by the decor or tired furniture or the toilets reached by going out the front door and up the stairs. The food and unassuming service was what we really wanted and so much better than higher priced, national chains.

“Best city centre italian”
Reviewed February 14, 2012

This is by far the nicest independent italian in the city centre, and far more charming than the usual string of chain restaurants found along st marys street and in st davids. Its cosy, welcoming, and very versatile. The staff can't do enough for you, and having been here several times in parties of between two and twenty, they are great at good naturedly catering for whatever you ask of them.

In particular, the pizzas are something to rave about. great fresh ingredients and proper italian crispy bases. there are also normally some great specials and a killer tiramisu dessert option which i highly recommend!

The most surprising thing about this place is the prices. The bill is always cheaper than i expect it to be, and its one of the few places where i would be happy to pay more.

“ticked ALL the boxes after the rugby”
Reviewed February 13, 2012

Four of us went here after the 6-Nations match yesterday and EVERY GOOD THING that others have written is true. Never having been to an International at Cardiff, I hadn't realised just how busy the city becomes when I tried to book a meal 2 days before the game. Lots of restaurants don't take bookings on match days but Cafe Citta did. We were SO gratetful. Thank you
p.s. try the tiramisu

“finally, somewhere with decent prices and authentic cuisine in cardiff!”
Reviewed February 11, 2012

i've been to Citta a couple of times with my partner (it was recommended by a friend), so decided to bring my family for a meal over christmas.
As per usual the food was amazing, and the portion sizes are so good for how cheap the prices are! I highly recommend trying the pizzas, they have a real wood burning oven, which makes all the difference in taste and flavour.I am quickly becoming a regular, and will most definitely be back for a visit very soon.
