This was my first time in this hotel, on a weekend visit to the City. The hotel itself was extremely good value and the service was good. There was a great bar which stayed open very late and served fab cocktails! The room was perfectly adequate (4th floor double), being well decorated, clean and spacious. Great little extras like a Samsung tv, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer and Bee Kind toiletries, and the walk in shower was great too! There was air conditioning in the room but it wasn't enough on its own and so therefore I had to open the window - which is when things weren't so great! Unfortunately such a great central location comes with a lot of noise - and I mean a lot of noise! I struggled to sleep because if I shut the window it quickly became too hot and I couldn't sleep anyway - which was a shame as the bed was so comfortable and the pillows amazing! Maybe in the colder months the window wont need opening and noise wouldn't be a problem.

Have just returned from a 2 night stay at this hotel. In a good location close to the train station and shops etc.
Hotel was very clean and tastefully decorated.Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Room was modern with comfy bed and fab pillows. On the downside it was extremely hot in there and couldn't open window .There was a portable fan and air conditioning but didn't help much.
My friend was in the room next door (4th floor),she was able to open her window but couldn't sleep because of noise outside in early hours of the morning.

We have stayed at this hotel many times. On every occasion the service has been good. Excellent choice at breakfast. Rooms very modern with everything you would expect. Management very helpful this year when we booked via a third party who cancelled our booking as they advised they were no longer doing hotel bookings. I telephoned the manager who kindly rebooked the rooms at a higher price than we had previously , however he still offered us a good deal. One negative point is that prices are extortionate when there are events being held in Cardiff, rooms are often triple the usual price. Location is great for Central Cardiff as you can walk to the Millenium stadium and into town for shopping and good restaurants.

Room Tip: Best to as for a room at the back of the hotel as it can be a little noisy at night in the rooms on...

We stayed at The Royal back on 2nd & 3rd Sept. We booked directly and got a great price. The staff were really helpful and friendly.

The location is fantastic - 2 minute walk from the train station, bars, restaurants and shopping. Less than 5 minutes to the bay by taxi (cost about £5).

The room & bathroom were very clean - shower was amazing, large comfy bed and pillows. We did stay during the hot weather and it did get really warm in the room as others have mentioned. The air con didn't really make a difference but they had put a fan in the room which helped.

We only had a couple of drinks in the hotel. Once before we went out - they even came over with some complimentary nibbles which were really tasty. And once when we got back from the bay. It didn't seem to get very busy with so many other bars/restaurants close by but great for a quick one before you go out.

We didn't have the breakfast at the hotel as we thought it was a bit expensive (cheaper if you order it when you book but still thought £9 was a bit high). Not a problem though as there's lots of other places close by.

Overall thought it was a great hotel and only wished we could have stayed longer! We will definitely be back to Cardiff and without a doubt will be booking The Royal again.

I can't say enough good things about the staff at the front desk. We bombarded them with requests for restaurants, attractions, directions, etc. Every one of them responded with a smile and a printout. The hotel itself is very clean, and our double room was quite spacious. They provided a hair dryer, coffee pot, shampoo and bath gel. There is also a safe in the room. The linens are of good quality and towels are big. Our room was comfortable temperature-wise, but the couple we traveled with said their room was quite warm. The breakfast was a nice surprise. All the usual stuff on the cold buffet and a menu to order eggs, pancakes, etc. Our service was always very timely, but we were there before 8:00 everyday, and I imagine it gets busier later.

The location is perfect. Walk out the door and go any direction for pubs, shopping, restaurants, whatever you need. Bus and train stations just around the corner. Due to its location and proximity to pubs, there is some noise at night. We were on the 4th floor and the noise was pretty muted. We weren't disturbed by it.

We flew into Cardiff and took the T9 bus to city center. Cost 5 pounds each. Really easy. Since we were golfing, we needed to rent a car, which we had arranged before hand. Yikes! Driving there is harrowing (but we're from the States, so we had additional issues re: the other side of the road thing). The hotel does not have a parking lot, but they have several options available. Since we were staying a week, we parked in the ramp behind the Prince of Wales. It was a 3 minute walk from the hotel and cost 25 pounds for the week. Your ticket gets you in and out, so hang on to it. When we returned home, we took a taxi to the airport. The cost was around 30 pounds.

All-in-all, we were very pleased with our stay.

Very clean, nice toiletries, coffee in the bar is crap, staff are pleasant,
Well decorated and designed. Reception is on 2nd floor which is bit weird but overall lovely hotel.
Nice bar area with nice comfy trendy sofas and free wifi.
No wifi in rooms.

Room Tip: We were on floor 4, think it might be bit noisy if any lower than 4 th floor
