The Hotel is a 2 minute walk from the Central Station, Millennium Stadium, Castle, Shops etc. It is right bang in the middle of Cardiff and is therefore perfect if that is what you want.

The hotel is modern with well kitted out rooms. My room was very clean and comfortable. The staff were good and very helpful, a real plus for this hotel. I have mentioned all the plus points of the location. If you are visiting by train or public transport then it is perfect. For car drivers there is discounted parking available at a nearby car park. The rate is just over half the normal fee so make sure you get the discount voucher. The car park is about 100m from the hotel. No problem for smaller cases on wheels but if you have a bigger case then look a dropping of near to the entrance (provided there are two of you). Get the name of the car park and have a good look on an Internet map (or similar) so you are sure of your directions and drop of point. There is a rear entrance off the road that runs parallel to St Mary’s Street (Westgate Street). There is a one way system in place so 5 minutes on the net will save you ten minutes driving around central Cardiff.

Room Tip: Try and avoid a front room if you are a lighter sleeper.

We stayed at the Royal over the Easter holiday weekend. The hotel is located in the heart of the city centre which gives it both plus and minus points. On the plus side, it is great for shopping, pubbing and eating together with close to rail and bus routes. On the minus side, Cardiff night life does not finish until about 4.30am at which point the clean up for the day ahead begins - therefore, the place was never quiet all the time we were there
The first night, we were put in a double room on the 3rd floor - a nice enough room if a little small, clean and a lovley comfortable bed. Although WiFi is free throughout the hotel, we had bad reception in ths room. The receptionist said she would try to find us a router the next day but that quite a few people had problemsgetting WiFi throughout the hotel, for some reason. I have to say this was the worst night's sleep I have ever had in a Hotel - nothing to do with the room itself but being on the third floor we could hear everything in the street below and could not sleep. I have to say, if we had had to stay in that room another night, we would have gone home.

The next day we asked to be moved. The staff were all lovely and said they could see what they could do. They found us a room round the side of the hotel on the 5th floor. It was perfect, much bigger and although you just still hear some sounds, it was nowhere near enough to keep us awake. Rooms were very warm but you can open the windows to let in a bit of air in the day (too noisy at night)

A nice little touch found Cream Eggs on our pillows for Easter. Staff were really pleasant and seemed genuinely keen to make our stay a pleasant one. The only negative was that we never got the promised router!

Contrary to the car parking notice on the Hotel website, you can buy a weekly ticket in the Wood Street caar park. When you have parked, put your ticket in the machine at the exit and it gives you the option of a weekly ticket for £25. You can come in and out as much as you want with this ticket which is excellent value for money.

Room Tip: Do not go lower than floor 5 if you want a decent night's sleep. round the side and back a better option

I've just come back from a adventurous stag weekend but stayed at the Royal Hotel. First impressions are great, very clean and tidy rooms, very well decorated and a well kitted out hotel room. Being easter we got a free cream egg on return to our room which was a nice touch.

We were on the 7th floor so was a bit of a trip in the lift especially when on our last night, the lift decided to stop at every floor on the way up, was rather strange. Being so high up the wifi connection was pretty much no existing which wasn't great. That not being the worst part though, the water pressure on all 3 days stayed was nothing short of a joke. Some times there wasn't enough to even brush your teeth, also on our final day I had to wait 10 mins to get any water at all, I had to turn the tap full on then sit on my bed until I started to hear the water coming through. Yeah I know I was on the 7th floor but the water pressure wasn't great. Breakfast was a bit poor, American style pankakes bought in and not made is a bit poor, streaky bacon would have been better too. Also at £11 was a bit pricy.

Apart from the above the staff which we met were really friendly and the room was always tidy on return. I would return as long as I could get a guarantee that id have water for the shower.
