Was in Cardiff with my mum for the first time ever (love the city now!) for a local friend's gig. Unfortunately when booking a hotel it fell on the same weekend as a major football match and finding a hotel isn't easy in any city when there's a big game/concert on! Luckily we found the Park Inn Cardiff North which was a bit further out from the city centre, but without a car, and with helpful reception staff we could get into town easily by bus and taxi. No problems.

Also the room was a new kind of decor for me, it has the look of a very modern/Ikea style decor, we were only staying for one night and the lack of wardrobe was ok as the two short rails attached to the walls held enough clothes for us! Minimal yet cosy too.

The linen spotless, so was the bathroom (which was so nice it looked like it was new the day we arrived!). Nice size flatscreen TV. Very helpful and friendly reception staff who upgraded our room on arrival. We didn't try the breakfast, or restaurant so I can only speak for the room and staff. It is in a nice quiet location and we got a good night's sleep. I would recommend this hotel for a short visit to Cardiff - especially if you're on a budget and/or there's an event that has taken up all the (more overpriced?!) hotels in the city centre!

Stayed here during a rugby match as all the central hotels were full as usual. We were slightly put off by the location but there are several bus services that pass the hotel and get you in the city centre in 20 mins or so. A taxi back (if it's later) cost about £12.
The staff are very friendly and helpful and we were made to feel welcome. Our room was very good for the price - clean, modern with all mod cons and a spacious bathroom.
The bar area though lacks in atmosphere and feels more like an airport lounge than a bar.
But all in all a great hotel - we'll be back

We decided on a last minute trip to Wales for the Bank Holiday weekend and couldn't believe how reasonable the price was compared to pretty much everywhere else we looked! We weren't sure what to expect, especially after reading varied reviews but we were extremely pleased with what we got.

The room was the biggest we've stayed in for a long time, it was clean with a lovely queen size bed. Ok, so there were no wardrobes (a big deal to some people on here!) but there were hanging rails with hangers, what more do you need? The bathroom was also clean and fresh with a lovely shower.

The staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgable of the area and the food was great too (although having an evening meal in a room obviously made for breakfast felt a bit strange).

With regards to the location, we knew we'd be just outside Cardiff but a 10 minute drive took us to Cardiff Bay which was a great night out with plenty of restaurants, and we spent the days exploring, driving through the Brecon Beacons, finding beautiful beaches and visiting a couple of towns and museums.

Overall we thought this hotel provided excellent value for money, it doesn't pretend to be a 5* and it's not - but we would highly recommend it for anyone looking for somewhere clean, spacious and friendly, with free parking near Cardiff!

We stayed here for the weekend to attend a wedding - lovely rooms huge comfortable beds and a fantastic shower - plenty of fresh towels and the bathroom and room were clean

The staff were all polite and helpful and the hotel has a huge car park which is free for guests.

On the down side there is no wardrobes or closets just a few hangers on a sticky out bit on the wall!! and the rooms do not have fridges - the indoor pool has been shut for months and there are no plans to reopen it in the future but there is a gym you can use

Breakfast is fine - ask for cooked eggs - they offered us poached or fried the scrambled eggs in the buffet looked dreadful!

The choice of breakfast is OK - plenty of cooked buffet food including potatoes and black pudding!! and tea and toast can be fresh and brought to your table if you ask

They do cater for coach trips so ask if there are any in to avoid going to breakfast at the same time as 50 plus people with 30 mins to get food!

The hotel offers food but half a mile down the road is a harvester which is worth the short walk - the hotel does do food but the menu is limited - although the price is reasonable

We got an all day bus ticket for £3 and visited Cardiff and the Quay the bus goes from around the corner by the roundabout every 7 mins so easy enough to get around especially as parking in Cardiff is expensive.

All in all a good hotel with nice staff - great value for money - could do with a revamp in places - and of course reopen the pool again - perhaps fridges in the rooms

We would be happy to stay again if we every return to Cardiff

We have stayed here on numerous occasions, it's a hotel on the Cardiff outskirts, so if you are planning to do a lot of city centre business, I'd stay in the centre. But, if you have a car and fancy visiting lots of different places in and around Cardiff then this is useful. First off, free parking!

It's just of the motorway but can't hear the noise. The rooms are lovely, refurbed in 2009 and maintained to an excellent housekeeping standard. I have a thing about dirty bathrooms and rooms so I am quite happy here, no mould or nasties.

Don't let reception put you off, the decor looks quite cheap and nasty but rooms are actually lovely which is the important bit.

We had breakfast a few times, which was ok, but unremarkable if truth be told.

Never used the pool but looks nice.

This hotel have always gone out of their way to be helpful. Most notably when my son was taken into the Heath with pneumonia. It was a horrible time and we were worried about where we would stay (well my husband) I was at the hospital. My m-i-l rang and they were so kind and accomodating and allowed us to stay in our room at our room rate (even though it was a Sat night and rates were higher and the hotel was fully booked) they said they'd find space for us and not to worry about a thing. When we brought my son home they allowed us to use their fridge in reception for his antibiotics too...

Overall, I feel that this is above and beyond, so I rate this hotel very highly based on this and other good experiences...

I have stayed at most hotels in Cardiff (some reviewed), so feel well qualified to know a good hotel when I see one. :)

Stayed here for a weekend mid July. Hotel clean and reception staff friendly. The room we had on the second floor was a nice size, but no wardrobes or any draws! Nowhere to put socks and underwear - you either can't unpack them or you have to leave them out on top of the desk. For 'wardrobes' they have three fixed steel bars, about twelve inches long, coming out of one of the walls....and one coathanger!! Very strange. The cleaning staff are pretty surly. Despite our cheerful good mornings not once did we get a reply.
