We stayed at the Cardiff Copthorne Hotel for a couple of nights as part of a package from England Rugby. The hotel served its purpose nicely - far enough from Cardiff centre to avoid the post-match noise, but close enough for a speedy transfer by pre-booked coach. As other reviewers have already noted, it does look a little 'dated', not helped by the amount of dark wood in public places and rooms, but it is comfortable and clean.
Our room was on Floor 5 [not as high up as it sounds, reception is at level 2] and was of decent size with all of the usual facilities. The TV had internet access, though we didn't use it, so can't say how good that was. The only thing we missed in the room was the little leaflet that gives you all the necessary 'blurb' about the hotel. Consequently we needed to ask about times for breakfast etc. [We were told briefly when we booked in, but by Sunday morning we couldn't remember if the times changed for Sundays...............]
Breakfast is DIY buffet style, and was plentiful, hot and tasty.
We didn't use the gym - again, information wasn't widely available about the how/where of using the gym, though I'm sure the staff would have told us if we'd have asked.
The food was hot, and service in the restaurant was good, but because we didn't have the usual leaflet in the bedroon, we took a while to work out what meals were available from where. The bar had two full menus and a specials board, and we didn't realise until we were seated in the restaurant that only one menu was available there.
All of the staff were friendly and polite.
Wouldn't want to stop for a week, but it was fine for a quick stopover.

Room Tip: Rooms right at the back of the hotel will be near the air intake system, and are likely to have some...

I stayed at the Copthorne hotel for 1 night whilst working in the area. My stay was pleasant and room comfortable, although the tv was very old and had a poor signal/picture. I ate in the bar area and the food was good, breakfast was as expected from a buffet but no complaints. I would stay again if I was in the area.

Stayed 2 nights with party of 10. Had excellent meal on first night, Breakfast was very good with plenty of both hot and cold food.
Went into Cardiff City by Bus £3:40 for day ticket, use it to travel around City, and to Cardiff Bay.
Staff at Hotel were very helpfull and gave us all full imformation of areas to visit.
Leisure facilities were were good, large pool and well equiped gym.
I would recommend this Hotel, and will stay here again.

Room Tip: Third floor over looking lake.

We did stay once before 2 yrs prior and very happy with hotel. When checking again was a little concerned about some reviews. However, the hotel again came up trumps. Arrival excellent and the reception staff were very good and quick. Review comments about decor seem a little trivial, was fine, clean and tidy and worthy of rating, room we booked was standard double at £71 B&B was excellent, and I can safely state best night sleep I've Had in ages. Extra pillow in room and wrapped a bonus. Breakfast was very good and rounded off a good stay. We did book dinner but unfortunately the heating wasn't working in the evening and some guests moved to the bar area, but it wasn't that bad to merit room service! Check out also very good. Overall, excellent stay and will happily stay here again and very much recommended. Would like to have stayed 2 nights for leisure facilities. Check your price online and see for yourself. I believe real value for money. We were attending an event in Barry and 4 miles took about 15 mins. PS. For the wife: there is a huge M&S across the entrance roundabout.

Room Tip: Double rooms are super kings. Hotel is off a busy junction but honestly didn't here any noise...

Very disappointed £350 for 2 nights is no joke and this was not good value for money . Our first night was not bad we had a meal in the Ragland meal was very average and expensive for what it was, on the second night the hotel was full with various functions and it showed, We had to wait for an hour after our order to get the starter. I ask for gammon in the Ragland and it was served RAW ie in had not been cooked. It was sent back and the next one out nearly hit the other going back to the kitchen even though I asked for it to be cooked well done, the chef does not have a clue, other members of our party (six of us) also had bad food in short terrible value and terrible food, the other staff did try to make things better. We asked for a Floater coffee only to be told we would have to wait for 40 minutes while they whipped the cream. The room was not serviced properly ie we only had one towel and when we asked reception for another told that another was in the cupboard but we used that yesterday was the reply at this point things went quite. No milk for the coffee etc. Never again.

Room Tip: Avoid at all costs it will spoil you journey
