“Great stay and ideal location”
Reviewed February 4, 2013

Stayed at this hotel for three nights and cannot complain about the service. Staff were friendly and approachable with great knowledge of the area. Facilities were also very good with a decent pool and spa. Location is right next to the main shopping area with restaurants and cafés within walking distance. Breakfast was £15.75 as it wasn't covered in my rate which was a bit expensive but there is plenty of options around the city centre instead. My only gripe is that the hotel especially the rooms do look a bit dated nowadays but that is general theme across many of the Marroitt's I have stayed in.

Room Tip: Rooms on the back of the hotel are generally quieter

Stayed last night following the rugby. Simple check in and out with good service. Whilst the hotel was exceptionally busy it wasn't too noisy. Excellent sized rooms and beds with lovely sheets.
First class breakfast served in the room.

We managed to get a great deal with hotels.com and had a nights stay with breakfast for 2 on a Saturday night. We had tickets for the CIA (Motorpoint Arena) which was just around the corner.
The room was fine, it could have been warmer, however, it had been snowing so it may have been us feeling the cold!
The breakfast was amazing and really worth having. We had the pool and jacuzzi all to ourselves and it was spotless. The icing on the cake was the kind gentleman on reception who waived our parking fee (£14) as we were new o the Marriott. All the staff were friendly and genuinely interested in our reason to stay in Cardiff.
We have stayed at other higher rated hotels but this was so much better.
Will definitely be back

This is the second time we have stayed at the hotel which is very well located for concerts held in the city and which is why we were visiting.. Have enjoyed both stays, the staff are professional and helpful and you are made to feel very welcome. One of our party had dropped out and they were happy to let us cancel one room and only have the one room for the three of us. The rooms are immaculate and well cleaned, the bar area is comfortable and relaxing. We ate twice in the bar area on this occasion and both meals were enjoyed. Tasty soup with bread for a snack earlier in the day then smoked salmon salad and gammon, eggs and chips early evening, Very busy in the evening when we returned from the concert but they are quick to add extra staff when needed. Breakfast was delicious, plenty of everything and a very wide choice (including cheeses and cold meats and a lovely selection of fruit), and again helpful staff - a request for a poached egg was dealt with in minutes and my sister was impressed with the cooking of said egg!! At night we could hear the night life from our room, but it didn't disturb us - it was quite nice to hear things going on! We are certainly going to stay there on our return to Cardiff. Well done Marriott and staff in Cardiff.

The Marriott in Cardiff is located downtown, within a walking distance from the Central Station (and the Millenium stadium, for the rugby fans). When staying there you are close to the most beautiful part of Cardiff downtown pedestrian area, with plenty of shops and restaurants, and pubs at every corners. This is nice and convenient but beware: front rooms can be quite noisy because some music plays late in the night from nearby clubs or pubs - if you want to really relax, ask rear rooms instead, it's probably quiter. I did not experince any trouble during my stay, so I can not evaluate the front desk properly - they charged me by mistake some in room delivery of newspapers that were supposed to be complementary, but cashed me back as soon as I mentioned that. Rooms are large and confortable, as for any Marriott elsewhere in the world I guess. The gym is nice (a bit of a maze to go there, since you have to take the lift first before going down using stairs), the pool looked great but I did not have the opportunity to use it. Breakfast is fine in the Brasserie, the only thing is that the designer tried to give a french atmosphere and make the guests feel like they were in downtown Paris when having their breakfast (plenty of large photographs of the Eiffel Tower, Montmartre hill or typical parisian streets all over the place) - I just don't understand this: most of the hotel guests are probably not lfrom Wales and just enjoy being in Cardiff which is a stunning and sexy city - why not give a welsh atmosphere to the Marriott in Cardiff, rather than a french one? When abroad, you want to capture the spirit of the place you are travelling in, not another fake atmosphere that only sounds "trendy" for the nerds of the marketing & sales department of big international hotel chains. Same story for the Brasserie: il you want some taste of local cuisine, you have to go out and stop by the nearest pub to enjoy some typically welsh roast lamb with laver sauce or Glamorgan saussages - the Marriott's carte only offers sophisticated french meals (I would not be that surprised to be proposed some Marseille's bouillabaisse). Overall, this is a nice and great hotel typically in line with the brand's high standards, but unfortunately with a totally lack of local atmosphere.

We booked into the Marriott for our Christmas dinner and a relaxing afternoon, the food was THE best and plenty of it, we also were given a glass of wine or champagne our own choice. My eight year old grandson had a wonderful gift from Santa, nothing cheap and nasty, then off to the lounge to sit around the fire with tea or coffee and just chat. the staff were really good especially the waiter and waitress, that served us, the hotel itself is very clean and modern, we have already booked a table for next Christmas..
