“Centrally located”
Reviewed January 2, 2010

I stayed at the Park inn twice over two seperate weeks, and it is very centrally located. Check in was fine and the rooms on both occasions were clean and quite nicely furnished.

I chose to have dinner in the hotel on 2 occasions but the menu is rather lmited. It is reasonalby priced but average tasting. Breakfast on the other hand was great. A wide choice and fried eggs cooked to order.

My main gripes were,

1) Horribly noisy air conditioning and you need it becuase the rooms are hot.
2) On my 1st stay I was on the top floor and all night long there was a perculiar noise that I can only describe as sounding like a washing mashine running all night.
3) I returned from my meeting on one occasion to find the very small car park quite full and the remaining spaces were reserved for other guests. I know it may seem pedantic when they have additional cheap parking at a nearby NCP car park nearby, but it really made me feel that they value some guests over others.
4) Some of the staff seem a little curt. The barman told me i had to move around the bar to be served in a way that made me feel rather like a naughty child

Dont get me wrong, it is not a bad hotel but I think I may try another hotel, the next time I am in Cardiff.

Firstly, don't confuse this Park Inn with Park Inn Cardiff North which is also reviewed on this site and seems to get much worse reviews. This hotel is ideally situated for Cardiff city centre, it is right next to the arena, and the main shopping/restaurant area. This is part of the problem, I was travelling with several colleagues, and a few all commented on noise from the street until the early hours. Some rooms are directly above a function room and music until 1am from a Christmas party disturbed a couple of our party. The hotel is built round an internal atrium, some of the rooms have no external windows and just look onto this atrium, these rooms are much quieter than those on the outside of the building, but have no natural daylight, up to you which you prefer. Staff were excellent at check in and in the bar, though I didn't try the restaurant. Rooms were clean tidy and well equipped. Internet access was expensive, with no option for anything less than 24 hours, so no cheap option for just a quick email check when you get in. All in all, a good hotel, you just need to balance the convenience of a city centre location with the potential noise of the location.

Very pleasant hotel with excellent rooms. Good standard of cleanliness, comfortable and sizable bed. Room not too hot and windows openable if additional ventilation required.
Breakfast was fine - my specially ordered fried eggs came in good time, the sausages were pretty good (a normal test of mine). We got to breakfast around 0840 and got a table straight away but I noticed when we left that at about 0920 there was quite a queue to get in. Probably due to the concert at the Cardiff international arena opposite the hotel the previous night
My only gripe was with parking - there are limited spaces and its first come first served. We arrived at 17.00 on a friday and missed the last space. However - if you get their before that time you can leave the car all day on the day of checkout which means that for less than a tenner you could park for over 24 hours and use the hotel as a shopping trip base. Given the recent re-development of the centre of Cardiff this is worth bearing in mind.
Having said that - there are only 32 spaces in the car park and we knew that before we went. Just go as early in the day as you can if you do go to stay - you cannot book parking ahead.
Staff were friendly and helpful both on the phone and in person.

if you are staying in rooms 108 onwards, dont expect any sleep...... from 7pm-11pm and from 6.30am to 10.30am there was a constant high pitch whirring sound(much like a wachine machine on spin) and it was loud, even louder than the traffic. It was only when we went down from breakfast (after only 4 hrs sleep) that i found out our room was above the breafast buffet and it was the toasting machine,it really was that loud!

Car park was like a shoe box, they say they dont reserve but when we arrived cones were marked reserved for people arriving the next day???.

the room do not have aircon,so make use of the fan they supply because it does get hot. If i had to stay here I would insist on a room on a higher floor

I stayed at the Park Inn as I was going to the Michael McIntyre show at Cardiff International Arena. Location couldn't have been better - about 5 paces from the hotel front door to the steps of the CIA! The location was also excellent for exploring Phase 2 of the St David's Centre development - right next door to John Lewis and within 5 minutes of Queen Street.

The hotel was very bright, clean and modern. I think my reservation was for a business-friendly room, which meant a king-sized bed, flat screen TV and breakfast included. The room was very nice and clean - as it should have been. My only non-positive comment would be that the heating didn't appear to work...but as it was quite warm (even for November) no real problem.

Another plus to note was that parking included in the price and was on site - a real bonus!!

The breakfast was buffet style with a lot of choice. The food was fresh and tasty and worth the money!

The hotel staff were polite and business-like - especially at the reception desk, if not a bit brisque, but no complaints.

After reading the other reviews, I was a bit concerned, but as a lot of them had been submitted following visits during the construction of John Lewis and Phase 2 of the development, there were none of these issues whilst I was there. The location was perfect for shows at the CIA and exploring Cardiff in general. A very nice stay.

We drove to Cardiff from London without any reservations and still manage to get a good rate for the night, and it was on a weekend. Bars and restaurants, shopping are only walking distance, and the Castle as well. Breakfast food was good and fresh, lot's to choose from of their buffet. The parking were safe too!
