Holiday Inn Express Cardiff Bay

My son & I stayed last night. Hotel is in a great location, just outside the city centre. We walked into the city for tea, and today, walked down to Cardiff Bay to see Dr Who. Both walks are about 15 mins. Being just outside the city centre, the hotel is reasonable quiet.

Breakfast is included in the price, and you get a reasonable choice.

The guy at reception, is probably the most cheerful hotel worker, I have ever met.

We went away for the long bank holiday weekend and we were advised to visit Cardiff bay, so my husband found the holiday inn at Cardiff bay and it was really value for money, however which ever holiday inn I've stayed at we've never had to pay for parking but this one we paid five pounds a night so I wasn't happy but hey. The breakfast was lovely I enjoyed every bite including the sausages they are a must try!!!! There are easy locations to reach too by a local cab or if you're driving. I loved it here in Cardiff bay I would come back.

We stayed for the weekend when visiting Cardiff. It is very easy to find and nearby there are brown tourist signs so you cant get lost! The hotel is situated in the heart of new housing with a large car park at the front and for security there is a barrier to exit the hotel (code from reception).

It is 5 mins walk from Cardiff Bay train station, 5-10 mins form the Bay itself and 15-20 mins walk from the city centre.

There is a large reception area with no food on site except vending machines and they have a choice of takeaway menus.

The room was nice and along the corridor there are energy saving lighting bulbs. Breakfast is split between the main breakfast area and Dylan Thomas suite with nice food (including coco pops).

For a nice stay visiting Cardiff - this is a great hotel for a short break.

Room Tip: Maybe get ones rear facing as quieter and looking at the Bay

staff very friendly and hotel ideal for stopover before flight. room ideal for wheelchair user - walk in shower. breakfast was good for early birds and included in price. because my husband in wheelchair they provided free taxi to airport because shuttle wouldnt have been suitable. reasonable price as well we booked on line at £49 (breakfast included). hotel is approx 10 mins from airport if you fancy a walk. we had taxi to barry for few hours (£7 each way in taxi) and had meal/few lagers in local wetherspoons. all in all would recommend for stay

Room Tip: first floor room near lift for disbled user

We needed a quiet hotel for an overnight stay and visit to a performance in the Millennium Centre. Clean, tidy and a friendly and helpful welcome. Our room was on the ground floor facing the dock and there is some noise from the major road on the other side of the dock, but not so much that it would disturb your sleep. Buffet breakfast was adequate, with fresh fruit on offer and staff evidently keeping an eye on things and topping up when required. We walked from the station, 15 minutes or so, but you can easily get a bus to the first stop down Lloyd George Avenue and turn left to walk through to the hotel. Overall good value and a useful straightforward hotel.

More affordable than typical hotels of the area. We feel we got our money's worth. Very clean, but somewhat spartan feel to the decor. The breakfast was great - and this is being critiqued by our sons who are young adult males - quality of food is very important to them. They also loved sitting out on the deck looking over the water in the evening. We all appreciated the convenience of location - about a 15 min walk to the castle. We have used many Holiday Inn Expresses in the past years - but always when traveling down to the States. This is our first experience using one in the UK. I say this up front, in case the fact there was no free coffee in the lobby (except at breakfast) and no free wifi is that this is standard for the UK. My husband and I didn't try the TV, but my sister and sons did and they said theirs came and went in terms of working. Besides lack of free coffee and wifi, (and if we had needed parking there was a fee for this as well), it was a great place to stay. Last but not least - the staff were great. Despite feeling nickled and dimed to death (should we see the US hotels as spoiling us rather than UK one being cheap?) - would stay there again.

Room Tip: We got turned around trying to find the hotel when walking from city centre. It is not readily visib...

Stayed prior to Bruce Springstein concert. Good location & we were able to walk to the stadium. Basic double room £167. £5 for car park. Breakfast basic help yourself. Juices horrible & no bacon, muesli or even prunes on offer. No shampoo or extras in room but had notice to request at reception items required. Staff helpful & friendly. Don't know if I would stay here again especially at the price we payed. Concert was absolutely brilliant so hotel didn't seem too bad.

Room Tip: Request room not overlooking car park.
