Plenty of eating places around Mermaid Quay. If you're lucky like me you might come across filming for Dr Who near the BBC village. The Cyber Men I saw are never likely to take over the earth! Didn't go in the Dr Who Experience as it was about £15 and friends said they didn't think it was worth it. Seeing live filming was much better! Did go in the World of Boats which is just getting started. It was ok but not overly inspiring yet.
Good area for taking photos! You can get there by boat from the city centre at certain times of the day. And there are cruises around the bay area, which are pleasant in nicer weather

Easy access on the bendybus "baycar" takes one to "The Bay"
This area was formerly the Centre of "The Docks" and was a very rough place, which has now been thoroughly yuppified, with lots of expensive appartments overlooking the water. It is a great place to sip coffee and people watch.

The bay was originally the confluence of three rivers, with oozing mudflats whenever the 40' tide was out. Now, with the barrage accross the seafront, it is a very large lake, with lots of watersports in summer.

Many restaurants front the bay, and also bars, cinema, and the Welsh National Opera House, and Doctor Who are all to be found close by. What is disappointing is that there is almost a complete lack of tourist shopping here.

In comparible waterfront locations such as Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco, Baltimore Harbour, Bayside, Miami, there are dozens of arts and crafts, and clothes shops, catering to tourists.

We visited with visitors from Germany who thoroughly enjoyed their visit with a walk around the bay area, visiting the Norwegian Church and having a coffee there and then an icecream at Cadwalladers.

This is a beautiful area, completely redeveloped and full of stunning buildings. Plenty to do and see. Our high point was the Dr Who Experience.
