This is such a great walk or bike ride and it is exciting watching the boats go through the locks. A good play area and skate park for the kids as well. There is also a good circular route approx 8 to 10K for a run or cycle if you are up for it.

Leaving Cardiff bay to walk along the barrage, it is a very pleasant stroll, lovely views, children' s play area, plenty of places to rest, watch the birds, the ships out at sea. Walk over the barrage, see the marvelous engineering tat ad gone into this massive structure, some lovely photo op's. You walk right into Penarth, see the marina, stop here for a drink or a lovely meal...Timing it so you can see the barrage open up to let in a ship or boat is amazing...Another place to take a picnic. I would imagine it is lovely in the Summer, even so we still enjoyed the walk although it was painfully freezing!

Really enjoyed walking around the dock area anf over the barrage. Everything has been planned very sympathetically, bike hire, loveky children's play area. The only omission was no cafe for a coffee or snack, just a mobile van which was adequate but a good sit down cafe would have been good.

As you walk around the Bay you have a eye opening, mouthwatering selection of International cuisine, ranging from American 1950's style Diner thru Turkish restaurants, to Japanese Sushi Bar, all this linked in to a host of other restaurants including local pubs a comedy club, and many interesting attractions, ranging from The Senedd building (Welsh Parliment) to the Pier Head Building built from red stone, to the Millenium centre (locals call it the armadillo due to its construction methods and materials). The area has been used as the location for Torchwood and Docor Who, and many other TV series that have been exported throughout the world. Also you have hidden awaoy is the Coal Exchange where the first million pound deal in the world was brokered, during the time in the 19th century when cardiff was King Coal. There are always events happening on the water most weekends throughout the summer

This is a great place to visit in Cardiff, The barrage connects The Bay with Penarth and its a lovely walk with great views and you can watch the boats coming through which is fascinating. Eateries etc both sides and its flat and easy to walk.
