“Solid 4 star hotel”
Reviewed March 30, 2014

We are frequent visitors to Cardiff but this is the first time we have stayed here.

Overall we were impressed - consistently great Reception staff and concierge, a good bar with nice staff and smart public areas. We loved the live music in the bar. The location is good - very convenient for Mermaid Quay, Dr Who experience and the Millenium Centre.

The only let downs were an overpriced restaurant with a very slow drinks service (you may be better ordering evening drinks at breakfast to get them in time for your food) and a chaotic breakfast - although to be fair it was extremely busy when we were there.

The rooms were nice, but feeling tired. However the spectacular views from them make up for it in part.

We are sad we didn't get time to try the spa out, but the hairdresser on site was good. We would return.

Your comments have been noted in relation of the drinks service I can only apologise for this. We look forward to your return back to St. David's soon.

Weekend stay from Friday till Sunday. The room which was a standard double had beautiful views and the rooms were very spacious. The bathroom could do with a modern update but over all still very nice. The breakfast was good I would recommend it. The hotel is within a 5 minute walking distance to mermaid quay where there are many bars and restaurants. We took the water taxi (£3 one way) from there the following day up to the city centre and the castle. Parking is an additional cost £10 a day for the hotel car park of £7 a day for the pay and display car park. They are next to each other.

Stayed here recently for one night as I was attending a conference in Cardiff Bay. My room had a balcony overlooking the bay, even though it was raining it was beautiful. I ate in the restaurant in the afternoon and again for breakfast, both times were very impressive, again with gorgeous views. I used the spa facilities, pool, sauna and jacuzzi the next morning even after checkout. It was very relaxing only disappointment was the lack of a steam room. Will definitely return.

Stayed here last week for one night and totally and utterly cannot recommend it highly enough! I normally stay well away from trip advisor due to people being full of nonsense and I have to say the moaners on here need a wake up call! After seeing some of the reviews I just had to sign up and put my views out there so that everyone knows how great this hotel is!
Just go and try it for yourself with no pre-conceived notions! The service and warmth from the staff was THE BEST I've ever come across! From booking to departure everything was seamless and effortless! St David's hotel is a treat indeed and the staff, food, service and our room did not fail to impress us! Already planning our next stay! Thanks to you all!

We've stayed at the st David's quite often over the last five years and have always thoroughly enjoyed our stays. The recent reviews on trip advisor were quite off putting though and I was unsure about whether to return. We did return however and stayed this week. I agree the place is looking a little tired and outdated but it is still a lovely place to stay. The staff are efficient ,breakfast is excellent and our upgrade to a suite was very welcome.so thank you St David's you may be ageing but you are still a force to be reckoned with.
P.s. Cocktails are delicious

We recently had a one night midweek break. Our room was clean, tidy and served the purpose - lovely range of toiletries and free robe/slipper use was a bonus.
The spa was lovely and relaxing but the staff were bored and lacked any spark, no one offered to show us around for example.
There is a special secret relaxation room which it is worth finding, so ask someone.
I had a fabulous back, neck and shoulder massage from Enfys which was truly out of this world.
We had cocktails in the bar which was lovely and a good 2 for £10 deal.

The reception staff were very helpful and when I failed to unlock the safe the concierge was there within minutes to help.

Breakfast was lovely and a beautiful hot sunny morning certainly helped the view, but PLEASE get better sausages!

Really lovely setting but certain elements mean 4/5 from me!

Popped into St David's to grab a quick lunch with some work colleagues, reception welcomed us and showed us into the restaurant where we were greeted by a lovely girl in the restaurant who quickly seated us in a table by the window. The views from the restaurant are incredible! It's very rare to find a restaurant with a location like theirs. The food was served promptly and was without fault! Service was perfectly attentive! Can't wait to go back for another visit!
