I had a lovely surprise when i was taken here for my birthday in may :D we have previously stayed at the hotel in November 2011, for my partners birthday (when we got upgraded!! That was a stunning suite & a fantastic birthday for him).
We got a nice room on 5th floor this stay. The view over the reserve was lovely & as the weather was nice it would have been nice to sit out on the balcony but we had no chairs! Only chairs from inside the room which were heavy.
We got a bottle of rose in the package- which was lovely.
We have had food on both occassions we stayed & both times have enjoyed so much! We say its the best food we have had. This time there was a singer, who we really enjoyed. He sang classics, new songs- a good mix! And such a lovely view overlooking the barrage. See my view for breakfast to appreciate!
We made full use of the pool, sauna & jacquzzi! We had a massage each last time, which we both enjoyed, but this time decided to make use of the sun & explore Penarth.
It was such a lovely stay! Im hoping to come back again soon

Thank you ever so much for your kind review and I am so pleased to read that you enjoyed your second stay with us for your birthday . I am pleased that once again you enjoyed all aspects of your stay and particularly the live singer in the bar which is indeed very popular.

A warm welcome awaits your next stay.

Kind regards.

Chosen because it was near the glee club and had a spa the price was good but only because use spa was included. Didn't opt for breakfast as the price is rediculous. Room was lovely. Bar was lovely as we're the staff . Would go again

Thank you for your review and I am very pleased you enjoyed your stay with us, particularly the Marine Spa.

Breakfast, priced at £12 if pre-ordered, includes a full Welsh cooked breakfast, a continental buffet, fresh pastries and bread, fresh fruit and yogurts, cereals, juices and of course tea and toast.

I am pleased to hear that you will return to St David's in the future and we look forward to welcoming you.

Kind regards.

I came here late April as a surprise from my boyfriend for my birthday, I was always told st.davids was the best hotels in Cardiff but never experienced it before. Upon arrival, we were expecting a deluxe room but when asked what is the occasion and explained it was my birthday we was upgraded unexpectedly to a suite. Entered our room with a bottle of champagne and chocolates and it was a wonder. Even bringing up presents that my grandparents had sent to the hotel prior to being there. The spa was amazing me and my boyfriend didn't want to leave. The breakfast was exceptional as well. Couldn't complain one little bit. Well worth the money.

The view from my room on the first floor (room 107) was amazing, but that was the only amazing thing about my stay. The room was big but bare, and it felt dated (cf. the sea-green paint in the room and the tasteless (and dusty) art on the wall in the bathroom - see photo below). There was no fridge in the room, the hotel charges for wireless internet, and room service offerings after 11pm are meagre and expensive (£12 for a cheese sandwich and crisps) - if you are arriving late, do not expect much of a selection. The place has five-star aspirations but falls short.

I would not recommend.

Thank you for your review and I am pleased you enjoyed the incredible views that we are very proud of at St David's.

I note your comments in relation to your room and apologise if it did not meet your expectations on this occasion.

A complex room service menu is available 24 hours per day but again apologise if you were disappointed in this regard.

Kind regards.

Stayed in a fifth floor double. Great views of the bay and the nature reserve below. Could have spent ages just looking out the window. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The rooms are nice but just starting to show small signs of 'tiredness', there was a stain on the carpet in our room but overall, nothing to worry about. The food was great in the restaurant, though there were a few unavailable selections that had sold out. The bar had a great selection of drinks and knowledgeable staff. As someone else has said, the rooms don't quite feel 5 star but I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Friendly helpful staff, great room with a great view.

From the outside, this place looks old and dated, but inside it's really lovely. The rooms are large and modern, spacious with great amenities. My room was on the 3rd floor and had a balcony with a fantastic view over Cardiff Bay. Only downside was that there was no windows to open for fresh air. You could open the door to the balcony but it was a security door that kept shutting so you couldn't keep it open, obviously for safety reasons too but it would be nice to have smelt that fresh sea air! Breakfast was basic and it's a shame that you have to order the hot breakfast because if you're in a rush you won't be able to order anything, and only eat cereal/fruit. The meetings rooms in the basement were crammed and basic but the service was great. Would definitely come here again :-)

Thank you for your review and I am pleased that your enjoyed your stay with us at St David's.

Table service cooked breakfast is offered Monday to Friday with a buffet service of hot items offered at the weekends. As well as cereals on the buffet there is also a continental section, fresh breads and pastries, fresh fruit and yogurts.

As well as the balcony doors in each room there is a fresh air supply automatically pumped into the bathroom.

Once again thank you for your comments and we hope to see you again soon.

This is one of the best hotels I have stayed in, for the moment we arrived we were treated very courtesy from the receptionist to the concereige. Our car taken to park, yes had to pay £10 but expect that in city centres. Luggage brought to room as well. Upgraded to a executive room, and after 5 mins in room soaps upgraded too to Molton Brown! Also a bottle of fizzy brought in! The rooms are large bright and views to die for, must be the best hotel for these by far. The only nag was the curtains should be a little wider to block the side light coming in, and no fridge in 5 star.

We enjoyed our brekkie, nice choice but no yogurts which was a surprise. Good service plenty of staff, also would have expected a bread choice. Had a lovely meal in restaurants, again with good service, only went for the cHicken as thought the other dishes a tad expensive, and had to pay for too many extras.

Would definitely reccomend this hotel, within easy reach of the Harbour and lots of food and bars. Used the tour bus to get around with a stop on the corner. Loved Cardiff and very surprised at the lovely buildings.

Room Tip: High rooms 5 6. 7

Thank you very much for your review and your kind comments which have been shared with the team. I am very pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and the accolade of "best hotel" is certainly very gratifying. I am also pleased you enjoyed Cardiff which is indeed a beautiful city of which we are very proud.

I have noted your other comments in relation to the curtains, yogurt and bread and will be discussing the same with my team but apologies for any disappointment. Due to the 24 hour extensive room service menu we do not have fridges in all rooms as standard however can be requested.

We hope to welcome you back to St David's during your next visit to Cardiff.

Kind regards.
