“5 star facilities 3 star service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 27, 2013

We stayed for two night on the 25th and 26th Jan and whilts the hotel facilities lived up to the billing the service didnt.

ON arrival no one asked us about wake up calls or papers they just seemed keen to get us up to our room and out of the way.

A simple sandwich before the Theater then proved to be a problem as it took 40 mins to arrive leaving us 5 mins to eat it before dashing out of the door. Not only that we order a Ham on white and a Chicken on brwon to reciecve Ham on Brown and Chicken on white Ciabatta!!
Breakfast was the same four of us on a table askd for Coffee we got two pots of tea! and teh breakfasts werent right either with one missing Mushrooms and the other with a fied egg rather than scrambled.

It needs to improove in my view to maintain a 5 star rating.

We stayed here on Tuesday 22 Jan 2013. The check-in receptionist was efficient and helpful. We had a room on the 3rd floor (309) with a nice view overlooking Mermaid Quay covered in snow. Our room was clean and in general of an acceptable standard. The least attractive part was the bathroom, with discolouring of the tiles around the bath and on the floor making it look more than a little tired. The quality of the toilet paper also seemed to have suffered in a possible effort to reduce the housekeeping budget. This, being more in the style of “motorway service station” rather than a 5 star establishment. All the usual places were searched but we did not find a hairdryer –no time to phone reception though.
In the hotel the WiFi is free for 30 minutes, but restricted in speed. Then you have to log in again through the guest access portal. For me the hassle of logging back in again by having to fill in 4/5 fields of data every time you wanted to use it, more than outweighed any benefit it was meant to offer. My own view is that if you can get free WiFi with a £2 cup of coffee, paying for it when parting with a 3 figure sum for a room is never going to happen.
We dined out so are unable to comment on the food served. Before retiring, we had a drink in the bar and were immediately served at our table by an obliging waiter. Overall, the service was of a good standard.
In summary, a good experience, great view but difficult to justify the 5 star rating.

I stayed at St David's for a single night on a business trip and was impressed pretty much from the start.
My bedroom, classic king size, was spacious, with great big comfortable bed, fold-out armchair and floor to ceiling windows. The decor was in keeping with the marine surroundings and pretty tasteful. There were lots of ligth options in the room and you could get it as bright or as ambient as you wanted. The view from the balcony was awesome (I think most rooms have balconies, and a great view), even at night.
The bathroom was decent size, with fluffy towels and lovely toiletries - including bath salts (brownie points).
I loved the breakfast, a good selection of cereals, jams, cold meats, cheeses and juices, on top of which came cooked breakfast (made to order).

I'd definitely stay there again - next time booking myself into a spa, and choosing a little more hospitable time of the year...

A great hotel with spa facilities to explore the many delights Cardiff has to offer. If you want to celeb spot this is the hotel to stay at.
If you get a chance to spend an evening in the bar then you must meet Philip (with one L) he is a great character and he can keep you entertained whilst being a source of local knowledge on places to go and things to see.
He loves a custard cream if you do visit him.

Room Tip: Try and get a room looking towards Penarth, and the higher up you are the better.

The hotel is located in a fantastic part of Cardiff Bay, with the bars and restaurants.. The rooms are very big, nice size bed and clean with a brilliant bathroom!!. The views are amazing too. The shower is so nice!. But the only thing I would say I don't think its a five star as there is no fridge in the room and the spa is nice but doesn't have a steam room! Its romantic hotels for couples!. The breakfast is amazing with the welsh fed up too!!. Also a brillaint business for a big event!!

A two night stay to do some Christmas shopping and visit eldest daughter who is at the university. A great location, lovely staff and relaxing spa area.
Our only disappointment was the room which, although was large with the most fantastic view, was dated and a little shabby and too spartan, even for the modern look ! We even booked a more expensive room ! Not really 5 star as we have stayed in much greater luxury at a 4 star. Having a spa shouldn`t always = 5 stars.

Room Tip: High floor for an excellent view. Eat breakfast for a third of the price at one of the many eaterie...

Every year a friend and I get together for a "girly weekend". Last October we booked to go the St. Davids Hotel and Spa (my friend is a frequent visitor). It was fantastic, the staff are lovely and the rooms are beautiful and the view from our room, amazing. I would say that breakfast was a little bit "hectic" but the food was great. We had a wonderful weekend, I cannot recommend the hotel or Cardiff enough. Perfect for any kind of a break. I would say, book the spa if you want any treatments because it books up fast on the weekends.

Room Tip: request a view of the bay
