My husband and I could have spent the entire day here. We loved it. Even our 7-year-old son wanted to stay longer than we expected he would. It was his first time seeing dinosaur bones!
We were pleased to find that admission is free.
The gift shop is small, but the cafe has plenty of seating and great tea, cakes, and other items.
The building itself is very nice inside--an excellent place to spend the day.
We spent so long in the natural history section that we only had time for a quick spin through the art galleries. Next time we'll start with the art!

Yesterday we spent time in the Natural History part - fascinating in the way habitats have been created with both birds, animals and plants in life-like situations. The way, for example, primroses have been created out of wax has stayed with me from my last visit of 32 years ago - but now the whole set up has been brought up to date. We also enjoyed a couple of hours in the excellent art gallery, had home-made soup in the restaurant and used the 2 for 1 voucher found in the museum leaflet to buy our hot drink.! Everyone should spend time in cardiff Museum!

I could have spent the entire weekend here but sadly had just an hour so went into the natural history zone to find out more about the evolution of Wales. It takes you on a journey right from the very start of things - the Big Bang - to the present day, mainly through evidence found in rocks. I found the whole experience very informative and illuminating. The animal exhibits especially the moving mammoth were very convincing. And it's all free .. long may that policy continue.

Just a couple of concerns: first, the journey needs to be better signposted, as there were certain junction points on the route where I wasn't sure which way i should go in order to follow the timeline. Second, the lighting below and to the side of the individual items on display in the glass cabinets will leave you badly dazzled if you get too close. This is a pity, because you can really only appreciate some of the exhibits if you get your face close to the glass.

Oh and the tea room is a very pleasant place to relax and enjoy a decent, reasonably-priced cuppa after all that walking around! Will definitely revisit.

this has to be one of the best museums outside of london. The layout and the exhibits were first class, the people of Cardiff should be very proud of this wonderful attraction.

This museum had quite a diverse collection an d for first time visitors to Wales it was a great opportunity to learn about the early beginnings of the region. We enjoyed the museum portion more than the art gallery but liked the Welsh ceramics that are on display. Always love a free attraction.
