Interesting walk around the museum. Parts of it haven't changed since I first went as a kid. I go here a few times a year... usually to help pass time. Seems like a lot could be done to this museum to improve it.

“the national museum and art gallery cadiff- a wonderful way to spend an afternoon”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

we visited the national museum whilst on a short break in cardiff The museum is in a beautiful building in the centre of cardiff, surrounded by a park where you can buy a great cup of tea from a very friendly guy and sit under the trees watching the world go by! Inside there is so much to see you could easily spend a good couple of hours there. The museum contains an amazing art gallery, with modern sculpture to amazing paintings from monet, picasso ect. There is in the same building the national museum of natural history, with very interesting exhibits, and great for children.

“Capital Art”
Reviewed May 5, 2013

I hadn't visited the national museum for some years and was delighted to see the transformation over recent years. New galleries have been added to the upper floors and, with that, new art collections and imaginative re-hanging of the old. The contribution of the Davies sisters now gets greater recognition and it is their wonderful collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art that makes this possibly the best regional art museum in Britain. Another theme is the Power of the Welsh Landscape, gathering artists who have been influenced by the mountains of North Wales, including Turner and Cotman's intense watercolour of Cader Idris – a personal favourite. Other Welsh artists are featured, such as Cedric Morris, Ceri Richards, Kyffin Williams and Augustus John, whose works are hung next to exquisite works of his sister Gwen. The sense of history and landscape are imaginatively displayed; the curators have done good.

“Great way to spend a few hours”
Reviewed May 3, 2013

Came here and had a surprisingly good time! There was a good variety of artwork with examples of many periods of art. Almost as good as some of the large galleries in London. Could have spent ages wandering around looking at the painting galleries, especially the landscapes!
We look forward to visiting the Modern Art exhibition soon!
Worth a visit!
