Owner description: Beautifully ornate pleasure palace built by the Victorian architect William Burges.

A lovely walk round the ramparts with clear view of the keep, the old dividing wall and the front of the house. The rooms in the house were fascinating especially those such as the Arab Room with elaborate gold decor. It seemed to be somewhere to visit with older children who would have some understanding of the history. Although I have no knowledge and little interest in military history the display beneath the shop was interesting, made more so by a very personable and well informed young guide. A visit to the tunnels used as wartime shelters was an unexpected part of the castle's history.

We took our grandson here for a day out in a castle but due to the very expensive entrance price we decided to go to Barry for the day, the castle is just too pricey for a family visit, sorry Cardiff.

An okay visit to the Castle. Between the entrance fee, coffee, kids toys etc not great value. You will most likely spend a pleasant afternoon, but personally I enjoyed the National Museum better.

2000 years of history are on display in this attraction - Roman, Norman, Gothic, WW2. There is plenty to see and plenty to learn, with an informative audio guide to assist. Afterwards adjourn to one of the venues in Cardiff's historic arcades for coffee.

I am a regular in the cafe in the castle and find the staff are always knowledgeable and friendly and am always served a great cuppa coffee.
