“A fascinating insight into 2000 years of history in one spot!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 8, 2013

Although it was raining we decided to visit the Castle anyway as there were opportunities to shelter from the rain. The old Roman walls have been restored to show how it would originally looked. The wartime shelters are a chilly reminder of what civilians had to endure during WW2. The Norman Keep has very steep steps but the views from it are well worth the effort - we shall return when the weather is better to appreciate them more fully! The house is absolutely astounding inside and an absolute must to visit. Nice tea room and the adjacent shop is not overdone. Very good value indeed. Extremely pleasant and helpful staff. The Firing Line museum in the basement is very interesting too. Great for kids as well as adults. There were several groups of small school children who were having a great time in spite of the rain.

“Not much to the castle”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 7, 2013

Not much to look at for the entry price and not all areas open for viewing. Probably be better in the summer time when warmer but this is still a re-built area to give an idea, not much of the original to see

“Amaze balls”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 6, 2013 via mobile

I was brought up in Cardiff and haven't visited the castle for about 40 years.... They have totally brought the experience up to date. I loved the ww2 bit, atmospheric and informative, the hand held guides you take around with you were excellent and the castle itself is sooo impressive, well worth the entrance fee.
