We stayed here overnight when we came to Cardiff for a wedding. It cost us £85 for bed and breakfast and then a tenner in taxis to get into the city centre.

The pictures on the website looked lovely and we weren't disappointed. Our room was small but it had everything we needed with a bit of extra special luxury. The bathroom suite was very modern with a double ended bath, rainfall shower, complimentary toiletries and a television!! I had a long soak with a glass of wine watching Come Dine with Me! The towels were white and fluffy (not cardboard).

The bed was King sized and comfortable with two pillows each. There was a hair dryer, iron and ironing board, spare blankets, pillows, tea, coffee and biscuits, air conditioning and an Apple Mac computer which doubled as the television. There were other things the Apple did but we didn't really explore these. There was a clothes hanging area rather than a wardrobe but this was adequate for an overnight stay!!

Breakfast was lovely. Cereal and porridge, toast, fruit juice. They also made a cooked breakfast to order. I had scrambled eggs and smoked salmon.

Staff were helpful and friendly we had a little trouble with our key card trying to get in after the wedding which could've been a nightmare at 3am but fortunately for us the staff were still in the bar and let us in.

There is a train station in Llandaff which I suppose we could've used to get into Cardiff instead of taxis. And while it did cost a tenner each way I think if the hotel had been in the City Centre it would've cost way more than £100 a night for the same specification.

All in all very lovely and I have already recommended it to a number of people

Spent two nights at the Maltsters from the moment we arrived we were we were warmly greeted and shown to our room.
The rooms are all individual furnished to high standard in a modern theme with all that the traveller would want from a large TV. Apple computer to an ironing board.
Restaurant was busy with local customers which is always a good sign; our meal was excellent with lovely service and a great range of beers and wine.
The Welsh breakfast was as good as it gets.
The Hotel/Pub was very well run by the very experienced manger Garth who made his entire customer at home.
An ideal place to stay if you are visiting Cardiff, very close to the city centre and also the football stadium, suggest that you leave your car in the free car park as Cardiff can be very expensive if you are fit you could walk in 30minutes or catch the local bus nearby.

Will definitely be coming back

Having previously lived in Cardiff we had regularly eaten at the Malsters and decided to try out the B & B. We were certainly not disappointed, the room was a really good size with modern decor. Included within the room was an Imac with free access to internet as well as TV. The bathroom was very nicely finished with a TV built into the TV which was a nice treat. The pub itself is in a lovely part of Cardiff and within 3 minute walk of the beautiful Cathedral. There are also 3 other pubs within the local area which make a pub crawl a possibility. The food in Malsters is always of good quality and fairly priced, the only thing to check is Sundays as the menu is slightly reduced due to roast dinners. We would certainly stay again as the breakfast was also really nice with a choice of Full Welsh, Egg Benedict's or smoked Salmon.

Room Tip: Room 1 is next to the beer terrace but we did not hear any noise as double glazed.

My wife and I stayed at the Maltsters, Cardiff for 3 nights in August. On the first night we were shown to our room (no.5) and we're very pleasantly surprised by the modern decor of the room and the bathroom. In the evening we enjoyed a couple of drinks on the terrace. The next day we were introduced to the Maltsters Welsh Breakfast, a monster with egg, bacon, toms, beans, mushroom, toast and tea, which kept us going all day. The 2 days in Cardiff were very enjoyable not least because the Maltsters is right next to the bus stop which goes into town - take advantage of the day ticket so you can go anywhere for a cheap price. Note also that the Maltsters is right next to the cathedral. There is another review that mentions the noisy road, but I cannot agree as there was no noise to speak of, or certainly none to keep us awake.

Room Tip: Go for first floor 3 - 5

We've been going to the Maltsters since its revamp several years ago, and enjoyed good food, excellent service, and pleasant surroundings...but over the last couple of years, we've really noticed it going downhill...I'd agree with the previous reviewers about the badly prepared, overpriced rip-off food, but it seems to be getting worse...as do some of the staff - the older staff (managers, maybe?) and some of the waitresses are very polite and helpful, but there are a lot of young, chavvy kids in the bar with bad attitudes and poor manners. I know it's a busy bar, but it often just seems unclean, sticky, and basically unwelcoming. A shame, but time to stop going.

Stayed at this hotel a few weeks ago with my boyfriend and was very impressed with the whole stay.

Firstly, it is very cost effective; we spent around £90 per night with breakfast included (they will freshly cook as many dishes as it takes to fill you) and free parking.

Our room was decorated beautifully, with japanese-looking doors into the ensuite and a TV in the bath (was definitely impressed with that)..
You also get a widescreen TV on the wall in front of the bed, with as many channels as you could need, and a Mac on the desk! We both thought that was a great idea for playing music etc.

Breakfast was delicious, with options such as full welsh breakfast and smoked salmon and egg bagel (yum!). Also everything was spotless.
The bar has a nice seating area outside and offers great food all day at a very reasonable price.

Can't wait to visit again- this will definitely be our favourite hotel.

This establishment encompasses a popular, lively bar, a restaurant & a hotel. Each component would rate, at least, as "good".

They have only five rooms. No. 1, their premium room, is well appointed, spacious with a large, very comfortable bed and numerous, novel luxury touches. Prices are moderate and an excellent breakfast is included. Additional bonuses are that it is easily accessed from the nearby motorway network, there is free car parking and the attractions of central Cardiff shopping, Cardiff Castle and the Millenium Stadium are within walking distance.

Room Tip: No. 1. - large & luxurious.
