“Quiet Rooms, Good Sleep and Very Good Breakfast”
Reviewed November 1, 2013

Close to train station (5 minute walk) where you can buy tickets to the airport, local and long distance destinations. Train goes to Rhoose where you get a quick bus ride to the airport. Far less expensive than taxi ride (31 pounds for taxi) 4 pounds or so for train. Convenient location in downtown area which is a short walk to Cardiff Castle, covered malls and many other attractions. Breakfast was very good with a large selection of items at a very reasonable price. Free wi-fi for first 30 minutes or so. This is a large hotel with many rooms and many people who are requesting service. We found that most of our service requests were addressed quickly by helpful, friendly staff. The staff did not seem to know much about the local transportation system (trains) or local attractions, but they did help us find some things on the internet when asked for help.

Arrived around Halloween and it was great to see that the team were celebrating in fancy dress and decorations - goody bags for the kids were a nice touch too. So often chains can lack individuality so it was nice to see this at Premier Inn.
The hotel itself is fairly new so the layout was good downstairs and the rooms clean.
Staff were helpful and efficient - our only problem was a noisy neighbour [we had one of those adjoining rooms with a locked door inbetween]. The staff dealt with this issue quickly and appropriately.

This hotel is clean, modern with an excellent breakfast and notably good coffee.
The rooms are good, modern and clean.
The price is the same as an upmarket hotel, so frankly not good value for money.

I had a pretty poor reception upon arrival, I complained, the complaint was upheld.

I am not the only person whom drove round Cardiff (at night after a 4 hour drive) trying to find the car parking.

This should be on the website.

I am sticking to Holiday Inn/Hilton/Ramada....same price, parking is easy!

Whitbread should stick to running pubs.

A refund was offered and refused.

Room Tip: Stay at a business hotel, it will be less hassle, and after you add the extras like breakfast/parkin...

very poor evening service at restaurant expect to be there for 2 to 21/2 hours,
the bar closes early at 11pm without warning even when full and the house keeping of bed room is very poor but on a good note the breakfast staff were all friendly and professional

Well run establishment for families and business. Efficient check in, nice room. Great value at £45. Ideally situated for Central Cardiff and attractions, plenty of restaurants nearby.

Good value breakfast for £8 ish.

Usual high standard from this chain.

Room Tip: The higher the better!

This was our first stay at a Premier Inn and likely our last. We had a lousy experience - primarily with our arrival. Ignoring the arrival issue, though, I still found this hotel to be very overrated, particularly in terms of service. We found it inferior to Holiday Inn Express, NH, Hampton Inn and other hotels in the same price range.

The hotel does not have a parking lot, and, more importantly, does not have a place to park or pull-in to drop off luggage and register. The only available parking spots near the hotel were all marked Reserved or Handicapped. This created a major hassle as we ended up driving for 20 minutes during rush hour to find a parking lot, and then walking another 20 minutes to the hotel.

Service is very bare bones. You have to check in via a kiosk and there is no concierge. The person at the Front Desk was swamped with people - she definitely needed more help. The receptionist at breakfast seemed very bored and operated on auto-pilot.

You have to pay for Wi-Fi. If you decide to pay for Wi-Fi after you check in, you have to go through an annoying registration process.

Even though the room was fine and the breakfast was ok (additional charge), I would not recommend this hotel, especially if you're arriving by car.

Arriving on a cold rainy Sunday night into Cardiff, we were not in the best of moods as we had spent 45mins driving around the hotel and its one-way systems trying to find the car park – turns out it is across the street off David Street in the Rapports Car Park. It would have been great to have had this noted on the hotel’s website. That being said I cannot fault the lady on reception – Alex – who on the phone was very welcoming and calm as she gave direction to the car park that were spot on.

Check-in now at Premier Inn is very easy, simply using the screen to find your booking and the key cards are coded immediately with your room details. The room was clean and had everything as expected from a premier inn room – we like them because they are often cheap, exactly where we need to be (in this case walking distance to the motor point arena) and have friendly staff.

Whilst we did not use the restaurant we went to the bar in the evening later the concert and were met with bustling area, with incredibly friendly staff.

Altogether a good stay, just a shame about the car park!!
