We stayed here with children to see a show at the Motorpoint Arena. Its not too far from Cardiff centre, just a short car journey/bus ride. We chose this location instead of the centre as we knew we wanted to be near Cardiff Bay, and the Millennium Centre the following day, which was a 2 min walk from the hotel. The hotel has been recently updated, has all the usual basics of a travelodge, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good, although its a small breakfast area and as the rugby was it was particularly busy and noisy with event goers (even for us travelling with noisy children of our own!).
This also reflected in the cost of the hotel, where it would usually be very good value for money at around £50 or even cheaper on a non refundable rate, the cost was more than doubled due to there being events on. I appreciate hotels do this everywhere, so pick your timings well unless your a rugby fan obviously!!
Would stay again.

Room Tip: Would request a high room for the view.

I wouldn't have written a review about this hotel as you know exactly what you're getting with a Travelodge, and there's not much to add to previous reviews. However, I just wanted to give a warning. Our room overlooked the Red Dragon centre which has a very loud air conditioning unit running 24 hours a day. It is loud even with the window shut and I found it very hard to sleep for the two nights we were there. Otherwise the hotel is fine for a cheap and cheerful place to stay; the staff are friendly and it's convenient for Cardiff Bay. Just remember to request a room on the other side of the hotel.

Room Tip: Request a room away from the Red a Dragon centre.

The score is based on the price we paid of £29; can't be beaten at that price. If, however, you can only get the standard rate, you will feel short changed as it is a "budget" hotel and room facilities reflect that. We've stayed here a few times when going to Welsh National Opera at the Millennium Centre. It's always been clean and comfortable, although sometimes is noisy (when we stayed in the summer, reception was full of men carrying bottles as they checked in, which didn't bode well: and it was noisy). This time, all was calm and the only noise was a constant hum from fan units in the next door Red Dragon Centre; if I remember, I'll ask for a room facing County Hall next time. Take your ear plugs if noise sensitive.

The reception staff were really friendly, happy to explain the free parking system (you have to get your ticket validated at reception as you leave) and readily providing extras of milk and teabags (my tip for budget hotels is to ask for these as you check in).

The rooms have been refurbished since our last visit, I don't much go for the stripes, but it seems fresh and bright. The new bed was really comfortable: and i am fussy about my beds. Apparently they are specially designed for travelodge with loads of pocket springs: certainly impressed me. i've had worse beds in many places charging a lot more.

We didn't use the cafe/ bar so cannot comment.

We needed a bed for the night in Cardiff on a very busy week-end - the Half Marathon and lots of sporting events were taking place nearby. All we could find at short notice was the Travelodge in the Bay - but what a surprise!
The room was spotless - ok quite small but we didn't intend staying in - and the shower room was perfectly adequate. Parking is very easy - looks expensive when you drive in but your ticket is validated at reception and ends up coming free. You won't get that up town! The breakfast was advertised as "continental" but included a bacon and eggs etc if you wanted it as well as the usual fruit and cereal.
The location is excellent - close to the bay and a host of restaurants and almost next to the Millennium Centre. There is a train service every 12 minutes to get you to the centre of Cardiff should you need more. In short - nothing fancy but perfect for a short stay.

Stopped here for 2 nights -had tickets for the Millennium Centre on the 2nd night
Parking straight forward- parked in Red Dragon Centre carpark, lots of room, parking validated by hotel so no charge
Room basic but clean and functional, large double bed, very comfortable
Small breakfast area so we had to queue as arrived at busy time but breakfast was fine
However staff were great - under a lot of pressure ( when we arrived on Fri evening one lad was running both reception and bar) but remained cheerful and very helpful
Within walking distance of the Millennium Centre so suited us fine - loads of places to eat in the Bay area -had a great weekend

Basic but clean you get what you pay for .Staff rarer than hens teeth. When you do see them thay are very accommodating.OK for one or two nights but lack of room facilities like drawers!!! make staying longer problematical. No baths in rooms no -toiletries no phone not much space and exposed hangers for your clothes. No frills but if you book in advance for good deals then it is probably worth it.
Breakfast again is very much D.I.Y.-carrying your crockery to your table-no service whatsoever.
On the goodside the bed was very comfortable and large--it filled the small room ! Very clean and security excellent -you need your key to enter the hotel;each floor and your room.Just check that if you stay more thanone night your key card is upto date We could not enter the hotel due to staff oversight.
This was my first stay and after getting over the initial shock I would stop again at the right low price that they charge.Again you get what you pay for.
Big complaint you cannot book with the hotel direct but pay extortionate 0871 charges on phone if you are not too handy with the computer;I suppose thatshow they keep prices down.

Dear Leon D, we are sorry to learn of your recent disappointing stay at our Cardiff Atlantic Wharf. As standard we do not provide toiletries or phones in any of our hotels although we do offer the option to purchase extra toiletries from our vending machines. The bathroom layout can change across our hotels, we do have hotels that have baths but it would be best to phone the hotel in advance to check this before booking. It’s really good to hear that you found the bed to be very comfortable, we have recently freshened up the hotel with a makeover and put a new ‘Travelodge Dreamer’ pocket sprung king-sized bed in every room. Unfortunately guests can only make advanced bookings via our central reservations team or online, on the day bookings can however be made at the hotel directly. All customer feedback is invaluable to us and we will ensure that the hotel is made aware of the comments that you have made.
