Owner description: The fortress sprawls over a huge area making it the largest castle in Wales. Like the famous cheese, the castle has long been synonymous with Caerphilly. It dominates. Hogs the limelight. Think slumbering giant awaiting a call to arms. It's also a great backdrop for TV and film. It secured a starring role recently in the popular BBC TV series Merlin.

It is a beautiful castle, different from other "ruined" castles. The leaning tower is pretty unique--kids love it. We spent a little over an hour there as we were just passing the area, but you can easily spend a couple of hours here. The walk around the castle is gorgeous too, the castle is surrounded by water. We came on Sunday--parking is free nearby, otherwise still less than a pound for a two hours.

This place was amazing.......vast and made a very interesting historical adventure which passes on a couple of hours, as this is a ruin you do have to use your own imagination and there are no writeups to give you insight of how thind used to be, there was a "movie style" exabition that you could watch wich gave you the story but I found Castle Coch more interesting and informative, also no Tea Room....I found that dissapointing.all in all intersting ruin, fantastic moat though.

I don't understand how such an amazing place is not on everyone's itinerary.
The size, scale and history of the place is impressive.
Under £5 to get in and a hot cup of soup for a £1 inside.
A must see for anyone passing close by.

I hadn't visited the castle since my primary school days and had forgotten how impressive it is. It is one of the best castles in the UK and well worth a visit.
