Owner description: The fortress sprawls over a huge area making it the largest castle in Wales. Like the famous cheese, the castle has long been synonymous with Caerphilly. It dominates. Hogs the limelight. Think slumbering giant awaiting a call to arms. It's also a great backdrop for TV and film. It secured a starring role recently in the popular BBC TV series Merlin.

Caerphilly Castle is an amazing structure which I had the pleasure to grow up along side. I am now living in another country but I have paintings of this beautiful monument of ages gone by.
I visit from time to time and make sure I visit this huge castle.

Unless you have the imagination of a newt, you will enjoy Caerphilly Castle.

It isnt easy to describe a medival castle ruins as awe inspiring, but if you imagine what this place was like in its heyday, then you will absolutely love it.

We came at the same time as a film crew were occupying half of the grounds, but apart from that, it has fantastic views, and I would visit again.

Huge place with plenty of room for the children to run around. Good giftshop with lots of interesting things to buy.

It is an enormous chunk of history right in the middle of the town. One can feel quite overwhelmed and intimidated by its size. Surely this is what castles were built for!

Can't believe such a castle is basically in the middle of town! This is what I call a proper castle........big, square, with a big moat round it. One of the towers looks like is has been struck by lightning and just adds to the wonder of this castle. There has been a lot of restoration work done to this castle over the years with the Great Hall giving you a real feel to what it must have been like. We almost just looked at it from the outside, which is great in itself, but decided at the last minute to go in - worth it!!! Will make the effort to go back in the summer too as I imagine it would be lovely.
