The Star Inn at Treoes is a lovely village pub serving top quality food. The atmosphere is undoubtedly "locals" ... however all are welcome and the staff are really polite and welcoming. The steaks are to die for .... Ken the Chef knows his stuff!!
We started with the soup of the day which was carrot and chilli ... WOW ... that was different and sooooo nice. Also, the chicken liver pate was amazing. 10oz Rib eye steaks were cooked to perfection and the stilton sauce was gorgeous. Chips are hand cut and lush!
Pudding was VERY disappointing :(
Trifle was served in a sundae glass and consisted of a few spoonfulls of tinned fruit (mostly gritty pears) poured on top was tinned custard (which was runny) and a dollop of cream to finish...... YUK!!!!!! A real downfall to end a stunning meal. . . . such a pity the standard dropped at the end of a beautiful starter and main course.
Price wise it is was worth every penny (except the trifle!!) However I was not charged for the trifle thingy!!
Please dont let the trifle comment put you off visisting the Star ... just choose a different pud!! We will go back as they know how to cook a steak!! Menu board is mouth watering, so book now (advisable) and savour a tremendous meal cooked by a brilliant Chef.

This was the third consecutive Christmas Day lunch at the Star and it has been consistently excellent.Had heard comments that the Star "wasn't as good as it used to be",an opinion echoed in the reports by some of your Tripadvisors.I am happy to say that our family Christmas lunch was pretty near perfect, the pub was beautifully decorated, staff were friendly and the food top-class,with extra portions offered(but certainly not needed!)Yes,it was expensive, but worth the price as,once again, the Star at Treoes helped make our Christmas a special occasion.

It's a pretty little pub in the middle of Treoes and was decorated nicely for Christmas. Went there for lunch with friends and was a little disappointed. The garlic mushrooms 'en croute' came with a slice of toast and were rather dry. The steaks were a little chewy and there were no vegetables with the pork loin "unless you ask". Chips were lovely, service was ok, drinks were fine but it was all rather underwhelming. Have had much nicer meals here.

We took some family members here as a birthday treat. Firstly we found the menu confusing with limited choice. After asking for a bottle of rioja we were told that wasn't available. We were offered a choice of the three remaining bottles of wine. This theme continued when we were told that they had ran out of Brains beer, then they ran out of SA (Brains??) and that only Guinness was available. After ordering four chocolate Yule logs for dessert we were told that there were only two left.
On the whole the food was nice but overpriced and as we dined at 7:30pm on a Saturday we did not expect such limited choices. We certainly didn't expect a Brains pub to run out of beer!!
