We had heard bad things about The Golden Mile in previous years, but a friend told us that it had new owners and that the chef was amazing. I'm so glad we paid a visit, we had Sunday Lunch today (my husband, our 3 sons and I) as we were fed up of chain type pub processed food. My goodness, everything was home made and prepared to a standard not seen in some top restaurants I have been to. The smoked duck with blue cheese crumble starter was to die for (the duck is smoked in house and sourced locally, as are all the meats), and the lamb, chicken and beef dinners we ordered were all amazing, tender cuts of meat, and Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes out of this world (no Aunt Bessie's here!). The homemade berry crumble and custard dessert went down a treat and my cheeseboard complete with home made chutney - outstanding. The staff were fantastic and the French chef a very skilled and friendly man who has amazing ideas for this place. We will be supporting the team throughout their renovation of this tired yet charming old building, and have already booked for Mother's Day Sunday lunch next week. If you want good quality homemade food (even the bread is homemade!) and outstandingly good value for money, look no further.

This used to be an old-fashioned pub serving typical pub food but was taken over in December. It now boasts a French Bistro menu as well as the pub menu which probably suits many couples. We went there last Saturday and shared a starter of prawns and chorizo, followed for me by cassoulet with slow-roasted duck. It was excellent. My husband is more conservative so chose steak and chips from the pub menu - it sounds ordinary but it was far better than that. With triple cooked chips and lovely garnishes, he was very complimentary. Neither of us wanted a large pudding so we opted to share a vanilla ice cream but, instead of the usual three scoops in a bowl, the chef made the ice cream into a desert of its own with fruit and sauce. When the decor is finished (they have extensive plans as explained by the French chef) this will be a lovely bistro with superb views which people will want to travel to. Good luck!

Having seen good reviews on this Inn, we decided it was worth a visit.
We were given a warm welcome by the Bar Staff who immediately took our drinks order. Soon after, she returned to take our food order after explaining the different parts of the menu.
I ordered a Gammon with fried egg, mushy peas, side salad & triple cooked chips a speciality of theirs. My partner ordered Battered Cod with triple cooked chips & mushy peas.
The meals were very enjoyable & good value. I really must recommend a cask Ale they serve called "Doombar" ... an excellent pint.

It was our first visit to The Golden Mile for some years and we were delighted to enjoy some incredibly fresh and interesting food and some real ales catching up with good friends. Nothing seemed like too much trouble for the staff and the owners who were very welcoming, keen to provide excellent service and happy to chat and offer us a warm refuge well past closing time when our taxi was delayed. We learnt a lot about Cyril's passion for home cooked food and his ambitions for this lovely old pub. He deserves our support and we highly recommend you give it a try.
