Quite frankly this was one of the worst experiences of my life!! The service was shocking (only one waitress working so not her fault, and she tried her best) but no apologies for the delay in orders being taken or food actually being served. The food left a lot to be desired and was over-priced. The garlic mushrooms were swimming in greasy cheese, the medium rare steak was more medium, the peppercorn sauce was lacking in peppercorns and the "sautéed" potatoes were more lightly roasted new potatoes. The lady behind the bar hadn't even heard of lime cordial to accompany a vodka and lemonade!
Save yourselves time and money and avoid at all costs!!

As always as a seasoned veteran in the food business when you challenge a customer's conception of a medium rare steak , stand your ground and refuse to change the meal you can expect a payback. Incidently the young lady behind the bar is polish and I think you would agree she is very polite and helpfull and so did not understand your drink request.

My family and I have eaten here on numerous occasions over the past couple of years - mainly Sunday lunches but also a few evenings etc - and have always had very good experiences. The Sunday lunch is popular with both my immediate and extended family. There is a really good range of meats on the Carvery - beef, lamb, ham, turkey, often two types of pork (and there was even Guinea Fowl recently!). Ian is very generous with his portions - you can some of everything if you like and the help yourself to vegetables on the side. Gravy is good (and Ian will make Gluten-free gravy if you let him know). Both starters and puddings are lovely too. Bar prices are reasonable and there is a cosy log fire more or less throughout the year. Highly recommended!

Took my parents here for lunch on recommendation of a friend. When we got there the place was deserted, not a great sign I thought but the roaring fire in the dining room looked inviting. The menu is written on the wall, so difficult to read for elderly people. We opted for the two course lunch menu for 9.99. We were presented with delicious warm bread bread, a huge chunk of butter, parents both went for pâté, which was about two inches thick and homemade, a side salad and chutney. Almost a meal in itself. I opted for the gratinated garlic mushrooms with smoked bacon in the equivalent of a soup bowl. Divine. For mains we went for the turkey Korma, served with basmati rice and pompadom, herb crusted chicken breast with cream cheeses and the lasagne bolognese. These in themselves were again very generous portions, but along out came a side salad, a dish of spiced red cabbage, a dish of mixed vegetables and a great big bowl of home cooked hand cut chips. We were unable to finish anything but they were all superb and piping hot cooked to order. Very good value and great quality ingredients and cooking. Will be certain to call again

Although the initial impact of the Laleston Inn is very nice - a lovely olde worlde Inn with welcoming log fires - do not be deceived. We sat in a cold, cramped corner of the filthy restaurant waiting for an hour for our food to come.
When the food did finally arrive, the chicken was overcooked and the chips were not only uncooked but had a visible layer of grease on them.
The waitress did her very best to try and compensate for the inadequacies of the kitchen, but I will not be tempted to visit this restaurant again.

I was very surprised to read the disparaging reviews posted regarding Hilary and Iain's Country Kitchen at the Laleston Inn. Firstly, let me say that the restaurant is a concession inside the Laleston Inn and any late opening etc is not necessarily the fault of Hilary and Iain. I can speak for 4 or 5 Famlies ,and my own parents who all frequent the restaurant and pub, and we have thoroughly enjoyed the food, atmosphere and pub. Suffice to say we think it's the best Pub/Restaurant in the local area. Hilary and Iain work very hard and your meal will always be freshly cooked, of a very high standard and delicious. As well as running the restaurant,Hilary and Iain also do outside catering and are now the main caterers for Bryntirion Football Club and provide a delicious 3 course Carvery for their business luncheons. They are also very child friendly, with high chairs available and will make smaller portions of anything on the menu for the children.
Long may they continue here as we feel it is a very welcome addition to the village.
