Dining options: Lunch, Breakfast
Description: We are an independent Café & Bookshop located in the little wonky green Tudor building facing the library on Ship Street in Brecon. We serve breakfast from 10am-11.30am and then lunch from 12pm to app. 2-30pm though this is very flexible. We source as much produce locally as we can and everything is freshly prepared to order. We make our own homemade soups, stews, quiches and other tasty delights and have something to suit everyone's taste and pocket. We always offer soya milk, gluten free bread and cater for as wide a range of tastes and requirements as possible. Come along and say hello - a very warm welcome always waits at The Hours.

We had lunch here recently and thoroughly enjoyed it. Two salads; one halloumi and roast vegetable and the other steak and things, all cooked freshly to order and followed by a delicious coffee and an exercise in self-control to resist the amazing looking cakes. A little browse through the books rounded off a lovely lunchtime in a very friendly and welcoming little spot.

What a delghtful find! Cosy, friendly, informal with deliciously fresh food and an unhurried atmosphere. New books to buy adjacent the cafe area, second-hand books upstairs. Will definitely return.

What a find! Cycling through Brecon we stopped at the nearby bike shop and when we asked where they'd recommend for coffee they pointed us to this place (roughly opposite). And so glad they did! It was easy to miss (we had already cycled down the hill looking for a cafe and completely missed it). The coffee was absolutely perfect, and the cakes were superb. Service was great and the wifi was a bonus! It has a really nice atmosphere about it and a relaxed feel. We could have stayed much, much longer... This is now a fixture for us whenever we cycle through Brecon.

We visited this wonderful cafe and bookshop for lunch We were made to feel very welcome by the friendly and efficient staff We ordered a sandwich and coffee , the sandwich was freshly made for us and was very well presented . The coffee was excellent too !! After finishing the sandwich we were too full to have one of the delicious looking homemade cakes so we just had to go back the next day !!, Again the service was excellent , There is also a very good selection of books to browse through and a very quirky room upstairs .This cafe is a real gem with excellent food and service . When visiting Brecon again its definitely on my list of places to visit . Thoroughly recommended !!

Visited and as a notice on the wall said" take your coffee upstairs and browse our used book selection",we duly did so, sitting on a pleasant sofa. Only to be chided by owner telling us, ( we are mid fifties and sedate professionals, not a group of teenagers ) to be careful as a new exhibition just laid out.
Not appropriate if you don't want people to take coffee upstairs then take down sign suggesting it. Coffee OK but pleasanter experience in Ardent gallery (where they are entirely happy for you to sit upstairs and look at their exhibitions with a coffee) and other cafes. Won't return.
I should say in fairness a good and interesting selection of local books.
