The Beacons is centrally situated in Brecon and a two minute walk from everything in the town centre. I thought parking would be a problem but far from it - a large and free private car-park at the rear of the B& B was a very welcome bonus. All the staff were friendly and helpful on arrival and throughout the stay. Rooms are a little dated but clean & comfortable. Breakfast choice was excellent and the bacon & sausage was superb (locally sourced and you can tell - none of this rubbishy supermarket tosh).£45 is a very fair price indeed (wish this butcher was near me!).

My partner and I stayed at the Beacons for a long weekend. The Beacons was the ideal place to stay, not just for its location, but just simply a great place to stay. All of the staff were a pleasure to stay with. Next time we venture into Brecon we shall certainly give the Breacons a vist.

Although a pretty and comfortable guest house with adequate food and drink and a very good shower the spoiler for this place is the woman who owns it (Melanie) we were a group of 20 and basically gave her a business boost in the off peak season .We were taking part in a long distance cycle ride for charity and one of our group pointed out to her that we normally eat porridge for breakfast rather than big fry ups for energy. You would expect that this financial saving for her would be good news but no! You would think we had asked her to serve up her cat on a spit. we pointed out we would supply our own oats and all we wanted was hot milk and we would still pay the full breakfast price. Nope this was still no good.
We booked early breakfast at 7.30 and came downstairs at about 7.20 and all the cereals were laid out and bread for the toaster. The owners husband was in the kitchen looking angry so we thought it best not to push the hot milk issue and just asked for cold milk to have with muesli . this was met with abuse and him shouting that it wont be ready until 7.30 and that he had just got out of bed! I offered to milk the cow for him which he wasn't amused by. As the rest of our party came down at staggered times as agreed with Mel they were greeted with what room are you and what time were you given to eat at? there was no time for politeness or a good morning.
These people really shouldnt be in a service industry but i got the impression that they were too mean to employ help and so were stretched. There was one young man who i think was the manager who was pleasant enough but he looked clearly out of place

on the whole the guesthouse was ok if you avoid contact with the landlady and her husband ,The food was homemade if "opening the tin at home" constitutes home made.

One of our party left honest feedback in the visitors book , and we heard later that the landlady had collared one of us at a railway station and had a go at them about writing things in the visitors book.

Room Tip: hope for the best as its not worth the hassle of asking the landlady for anything

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Unfortunately it is not one shared by ourselves. The group of 24 were very pleasant and all seemed to enjoy their stay.

As you will be aware you arrived 2 hours before our check in time starts (as the organiser of the group had previously given us estimated times) You then went to bring you wet and dirty bike into the house which I am sure most people would not appreciate. Regarding the porridge situation, it was not initially pointed out that all you required was hot milk had this been the case it would not of been an issue but as we do not supply porridge this is what came across.

In the morning as you know everyone was given times when the cooked breakfast would roughly be ready as we would not be able to cook 24 breakfast within minutes for all. You came down 45 minutes before the time you were given (and 30 minutes before the agreed times) which you acknowledged and then when you were offered hot milk you refused it.

We do take exception to the comment ‘The food was homemade if "opening the tin at home" constitutes home made.’ We cooked from scratch a 3 course meal, everything being home made, should you wish to believe otherwise then that is up to you.

Regarding giving the business a boost in the off peak season, 1 week after Easter and 1 week before the beginning of May would not constitute this and we would not normally of taken the booking as from Easter till October we tend to only take 2 night bookings but we did so as it was for charity which we get many requests from and always help where we can.

The drawing left in the visitors book and 3 words for comments does not conclude ‘honest feedback’

We hope this clears up any issues. Many thanks, Beacons Guest House

The Beacons GH is certainly somewhere we will be hoping to return to. It is ideally located on the edge of town, barely a 10 minute walk from the centre of Brecon.

Our bedroom was well appointed with all the comforts we wanted for our two night stay. A great choice of locally sourced produce is available for breakfast and proved to be a great way to start the day.

The staff are welcoming and friendly and always at hand with advice and suggestions for trips to local attractions.

The Beacons was once a riverside farm and the 17th Century barns and cottages still remain. The front part of the building was added in the early 1700's and the house has changed little - apart from modern comforts and decor. The original spiral staircase, moulded ceilings and even the meat cellar (now a cosy bar) all add to the character and atmosphere of this lovely home. ... more   less
