My partner and I stayed at The Castle Hotel for 2 nights this Easter bank holiday.
The staff were welcoming, helpful and friendly. The room was lovely, a good size and with all facilities you would expect (although we had to ring down for towels). The location was also fabulous. The garden has a beautiful view over Brecon and the Beacons in the distance. We enjoyed a few beers in the sun!

However. We arrived on Friday wanting to shower after our 3 hour journey. Unfortunately the shower was electric, and about as powerful as a watering can. We also had issues with the temperature, and it was constantly changing from hot to cold and back again. The bath however, was a much better experience.

We also suffered a hideous wait for a dinner table on the Saturday night. We were told that there was a function on, and to be fair we did only book at 1pm that day. However our table was free at least half an hour before we were sat at it, and the food took over 45 minutes to come out. There was no apology when we were served, and my partner was ready to walk out! I suggest in future checking if the functions on will affect the service. I feel with the tremondous pressure they put on themselves, some guests suffered.

Overall we had a lovely stay in the Beacons. It's a gorgeous place and we shall certainly be back, but I'm afraid we will not be staying here again.

Although I would again like to praise the staff, as aside from the lack of apology for slow service, they were fantastic.

Thank you for writing your review. I am pleased that our staff were welcoming & helpful over the weekend. I am sorry your shower was not working properly - we have now decommissioned the room and will be replacing it. In regards to your dinner, I am sorry you had to wait so long for your meal. We aim always to bring our guests' food within a reasonable time frame and we failed on this occasion. Of course, we should have apologised at the time, and for that error I am sorry. We take all feedback constructively and appreciate you writing. Thank you again

We've stayed at the CoB for a couple of nights each January for the past few years, (to go to a commemoration service at the Cathedral). Always been good, but apart from our first visit we haven't left any further reviews.
Our visit this year in January 2014 was really good and very enjoyable. Dinner in the restaurant, was one of the best sirlon steaks I've ever had, either in the UK or other parts of the world!
We returned again in March 2014 and realy must say just how great our visit was. Our Brecon view room seemed to have been fairly recently decorated, it was clean, and very comfortable. Food in the restaurant on both nights was great, and the cooked breakfasts were plentiful and very tasty!
Best of all about this hotel is the staff. From the first welcome, right through to checkout, everybody is so helpful & friendly and nothing is too much trouble. A couple of folks who stood out are Sam at front of house, and Roberto in the restaurant.
We've already booked our next visit for January 2015, and we're looking for another excuse to go back again beforehand, hopefully sometime during the summer, when maybe the sun is shining so we can take advantage of the gardens!

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here for the two hectic days around a friend's wedding that was happening locally. Very reasonable price, and - although reception were clearly a little over-wrought - they were very accommodating. Breakfast was excellent. Be aware: there is a very big difference between the rooms that have been recently refurbished and the ones that have not. Two of our party of three had modern rooms, we (initially) did not - and the difference was stark. However, to their credit, the management changed us to another (refurbished) room as soon as we complained about the issue; hence the five stars. If they hadn't been able or prepared to switch us it would have been closer to three stars - which might account for some if the poorer reviews on here.

The rates are very reasonable the room always clean with all the facilities you expect from a good hotel. The choice of breakfast is second to none. Everything you could want from a continental breakfast to a full English, and if you want you can have it all. In the evening you can if you want have a meal with beautiful table linen and laid out to a high standard, or you can eat in the brassieres for a more relaxed meal. Bar snacks are available too with a good variety of choice. I can not speak highly enough of this hotel. The views across the Beacons are fantastic. It is a must to stay in.

Room Tip: There are no swimming pools or fitness suites just a very good hotel I have never found it to be noisy even when I have stayed in the rooms over looking the outside bar terrace.
