No need to look any further, just go and stay at this wonderful B&B. Warm and friendly welcome, full of farmhouse character, great breakfast, lovely room and a beautiful location with views to the Pen Y Fan mountain range. Just perfect!!!

We booked the accomodation with the help of the Tourist Information Center in Brecon. We chose it because there were lovely pictures of the inside of the house. And: the house is really as nice as it seems on the pictures. We were impressed by the worm welcome of Sid and Rachel - although Sid has plenty of work with the rebuilding of the barn. Rachel's welsh "five finger" Breakfast was delicious. Ty Newydd is a nice place to discover the surrounding countryside and to climb the Pen-y-Fan.

The details on the website sounded good but the experience of this Bed and Breakfast was even better than was promised. This is the best place we have stayed in and our regret is that we only stayed one night on this occasion but we will return, of that there is little doubt. It has an idyllic setting on the canal, right in the middle of superb countryside. The view across to the hills from the bedroom we were in was just beautiful, the quality of the accommodation and the warmth of the greeting from the owners was just superb. The Welsh farmhouse breakfast was beautifully cooked. Ty Newydd is a gem of a place and we will return; next time, we will bring our bikes to enjoy some fine surrounding countryside.

We stayed at Ty Newydd in mid August - it was a last minute booking as we fancied a quiet weekend away. We were actually quite lucky that the B&B had a late cancellation as we struggled to find a room anywhere due to the Brecon Jazz Festival being on.

The B&B was beautiful, Rachel and her husband were really welcoming and provided us with lots of information about where to eat, how to get there etc.

The B&B was very clean, the rooms were in excellent condition and the breakfast was nice..not sure you need much more from a B&B to be honest!

The one and only downside, which was no fault of the Ty Newydd was that there appeared to be an Elephant and a Pig sleeping in the room above us - one the first night they woke us up a fair bit as we could hear them snoring and stomping around the room at various points in the middle of the night.

Room Tip: I would suggest seeing if they have one of the 2nd floor bedrooms available as the people above us w...

This is our second visit to Ty Newydd. We first stayed for 2 nights in May 2011. On that occassion Rachel was on holiday, but her in-laws looked after us exceptionally well. We have just re-visited for another 2 night break, which was just as good as the first - and this time we were able to meet Rachel and enjoy her hospitality and amazing breakfasts!

The B&B itself is excellent - our first visit we had a double room on the first floor, and this second time we had a twin room on the second floor. Both rooms are excellent - very comfortable and cost. Just look out for the low beams!

There is a conservatory downstairs that can be used for relaxing in the evening.

The location is outstanding - right on the Brecon canal, so ideal for walking and/or cycling to Brecon and local pubs.

All in all, highly recommended, and we will be back next year!

We went to the mountains of South Wales, near Brecon, for a five day break, last week, having made our reservation without much prior knowledge of the location. When we reached the B&B, it was immediately obvious we had been extremely lucky in our relatively blind choice. The location was idyllic, in the middle of the wide valley of the river Usk, with the Brecon canal just ouside the property, and the possibility of hiring craft from the local marina. The room was very comfortable, and exceptionally clean. The breakfast on offer prepared to your specifications from the wide choice available. The B&B also has excellent internet access. Suggested walks are availble in diagram form, with instructions on how to find the initial path, and OS maps are also available. All in all, avery good choice!

Room Tip: All of them excellent!

I’m reluctant to submit the glowing review that this B&B deserves, because I fear I’ll be unable to secure a room next year if everybody else discovers this wonderful rustic retreat. My fourth trip to Ty Newydd in two years was met with a warm welcome as always. The rooms are bright, spacious, and well proportioned, and the full Welsh breakfast worthy of the most discerning gourmet. Overlooking the canal, and a short walk from two superb pubs – by winding road or leafy towpath – the location cannot be faulted. My thanks to Sid and Rachel for making our stay so pleasant.

Room Tip: Having stayed in three of the four rooms, I don't think any of them will disappoint.
