“wedding at brecon castle hotel August 2012”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2012

I would thoroughly recommend Brecon Castle Hotel as a venue for a wedding. Sam was fantastic and attention to detail was excellent.
The venue was superb, accomodation very good and food beautiful.
The main thing that was helpful to us what that Sam took a very flexible approach to our wedding plans and we were not tied in to the rigid terms and conditions we had encountered in other venues.
The wedding breakfast was a delicious buffet and we had bacon rolls in the night. The guests enjoyed the weekend enormously and Sam had reserved the dining room for the night before the wedding, which helped relax all the guests and ensure they got to know each other before the big day.
Prices on drinks were reasonable and there was a wide range of beers available which kept all our guests happy (some venues were charging extorniate prices for drinks).
All in all a really postive experience.

“Best in Brecon?”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 10, 2012

Chosen from its largely excellent TA reviews for a day visit to Brecon, we pre-booked lunch. The staff were all very warm and welcoming from the lady at the Front Desk to the young man who showed us to our table. As they were shortly expecting a large party in the bar area, he suggested a table beside one of the windows in the restaurant that had a marvellous view of Pen y Fan. The menu choice was very good and the food served certainly lived up to expectation - accepting that this is a (very good) 3* hotel. With its own car park right in front - it's also very convenient for a place to stop along the A470 north/south.

“A little more work would make it really good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 9, 2012

This place has obviously been refurbished and what we saw of the ground floor was very nicely done. You can eat in the bar or in the restaurant; both areas are light and overlook the gardens with outdoor seating. We chose the restaurant. Our waiter told me the soup was leek and potato but it was carrot and coriander when it arrived! Perhaps it was because we went on a Monday night but there was no calves liver nor honey icecream. My butternut squash risotto was nearly there but could have done with being a little creamier in texture. My husband enjoyed his pork chop. It wasn't cheap and we would like to have tried it for lunch as we prefer to eat at lunchtime and quite often lunches are better value than dinners. All in all we enjoyed the place.
