“High Quality Food at Low prices!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 22, 2012

As our local pub we eat here at least once a month (or try to). The menu is small, but has enough original pub meals on it to suit eveyone's tastes. I have eaten every choice from the menu and can say that they are all equally delicious! The Chef uses local produce and always asks how you want your food cooked, and if you'd like extras e.g. blue cheese on your burger (WOW definitly choose tihs! yum!). In colder weather the fire is always lit, which makes a welcoming atmosphere you can sit and chat to friends and family for hours in comfort. All the staff are friendly, and make you feel at home during your visit. There is a television showing news or sport, so if you were staying overnight you can catch up on current affairs. In the corner of the pub to the side of the bar is a comfy area with sofas you can just chill out with a drink, and there is a patio outside with benches if the sun is shining. There is free car parking too so you don't have to worry about finding somewhere to park if you visit to eat here. For an informal meal that won't hurt your wallet too much at all, we highly recommend 'The New Inn' @ Beacons Backpackers!

Room Tip: We haven't slept here (as we live down the road!) but have been shown around as nosy locals, and...

We had a great stay in the beacons backpackers, comfortable beds and a hot shower (all you need / expect in a backpackers). Place is quite small if it wasnt for the pub attached which the manager also runs. Got drunk and talked to some friendly locals in the evening (surprisingly it was raining outside so a trek to find a pub wouldnt have been on the cards).

Food is limited in its choice (pizzas only which are good) but lots of great pubs locally.

A group of four friends, we stayed in this hostel for one night as a base to hiking in the Brecon Beacons national park. We really wished we could have stayed more, since this is both a fantastic area to visit (very peaceful and beautiful rural hills scenery) and the hostel itself had a very nice atmosphere - all the staff are extremely friendly and helpful, the hostel is part of a local pub, and in the evening it is a meeting place for locals.
We shared a room with four beds, and it was good size, with a bathroom, and was very clean.
There are footpaths starting right by the hostel and there is a small store nearby, so it is very convenient to tour the area.

We were a group of five friends out to explore South Wales. We were lucky to get a whole 6-bed dorm room to ourselves for our stay, which worked out well since no women-only rooms are offered. The place is small and cosy, and the staff were forthright and helpful. They recommended hiking trails, gave us weather checks and even let us make our own sandwiches. Only downside - food served only during a limited time of the day
