Although this is called a hotel, it's really a bed and breakfast. The proprietor is a friendly older man who always wears an apron (ready to cook something up on request). There is an old-timey gentlemen's lounge with a full bar, although you still get the feeling that you're in someone's living room. A full English breakfast was served free of charge and on demand. The room was spacious, clean and lacking none of the important amenities.

The selling point here is the hospitality and warmth that you receive during your visit. We came in to the hotel at around 10:30 p.m. with no reservation and got the last room available. The proprietor (and his friendly dog) were welcoming. He quoted us a very reasonable price of 60 pounds and told us to pay him on our way out the next morning. He didn't even ask for a credit card for security, which made us feel very welcome.

This is a quite place, and no suitable if you're wanting to stay up late and party. For our purposes, at the end of a long day of travel, it was perfect. Highly recommended.

We stayed here for 1 night at very short notice to settle our son into the local university where he had suddenly and unexpectedly secured a place. It was very conveniently placed for our needs and was "just the job" as they say!We were warmly welcomed and shown to a large twin bedded room, which was what we had requested. The beds were very old in design (like all the furniture) but quirky, interesting and very comfortable as well as having very clean and pleasant bedding.
The en suite bathroom was huge with the benefit of a lovely big bath as well as a shower. It was lovely to soak in a lovely hot bath after a very long and busy day.
There was good tea and coffee making facilities with ample supplies.
Breakfast the next morning was ok, admittedly not the best cooked breakfast I've had but for the price it was acceptable, could've done with a wider choice of cereals and fruit.
The little dog in the dining room was not a problem for us.
The only thing that would stop me giving an overall excellent grading is the slight shabbiness of the corridor and staircase areas and a little untidiness in one area of the dining room. The conservatory /dining room has a good view over a lovely courtyard garden.
I would definitely stay here each time I have to go up to Wrexham which is likely to be quite a few times!

I'd consider this an excellent value hotel, where if you're not expecting The Ritz, you shouldn't be disappointed so I'd have no hesitation recommending.

Our first night was let down by only being provided with a twin when a double had been booked. The twin was adequate but the room was a little shabby and dark and not what we'd expected from the photos on the website. Having driven a long way and being late (9pm), it was too late to consider another hotel. John, the proprietor offered to correct it the following day.

Breakfast was superb. Lots of choice and the cooked breakfast was fantastic.

Anyway, we got our double room and it was superb. I know the flowery decor is of a "certain taste" but if we'd got this room on the first night all would have been well.

Even though we were only staying for 2 nights, overall we were happy and due to the booking error the charges were discounted to our satisfaction - without us asking.

As long as you're not expecting 5* luxury then this would make an excellent base for an extended stay. Did I mention the bar? Locals frequent the hotel bar and it was a very friendly atmosphere, so a good way to unwind and relax!

spotlessly clean rooms, comfy bed, freshly cooked breakfast, shiny cutlery, a coffee pot that doesn't drip and good old fashioned hospitality if this is what people call dated and tired then bring it on!! anybody can see by the outside the date of this hotel that it is not a new build, but that adds to its charm, and its homely feel Thank you John and Rufus for making us feel so very welcome

Room Tip: we had room 8 double aspect at back of building with a newly refitted bathroom very comfortable to w...

we have stayed here 2 years in a row the décor is old fashioned but we think this makes it rather quaint. It is very clean, quiet and comfortable. Breakfasts are great freshly prepared not like in big hotels were breakfast is buffet style there is also plenty of choice. It is also very convenient for Wrexham which is a short walk away

I want to start with the good points. The situation is great short walk into Wrexham, the breakfast was really nice and plenty of it. The bed was very comfy and they have some lovely furniture. The place could do with a refurbishment. We stayed in the room on the pictures with the flowery paper and it is all looking a bit tired and also over powers the lovely bed and dressing table. They have the decor in the down stairs perfect though. Bad point was we said we would arrive at 2 but were half an hour late due to getting lost. When we got there a note had been left to say they would be back at four. Had we arrived in a taxi we would be sat outside waiting. One point lost. We decided to go for a drive and returned at 3.55 and had to wait with another guest until 4.30 before we could check in. Really not the best customer service. Also they have a lively little very well behaved dog. He is very sweet and wanders around the hotel. I have a dog and personally didn't mind this but I was very surprised to see him wandering around the breakfast room. As I said I have a dog and I didn't mind this. He is good and doesn't cause a fuss but if you don't have a dog I think this would be quiet off putting. I wanted to give 4 points but couldn't. It is a nice place and the breakfasts are generous and well presented. It was let down by tired decor, a bad customer experience and not recognising that not everyone is a dog person. I would possibly go back just to see if this experience could be improved on
