The steam train that pulls the carriages is a beautifully bright green, with a bit of red and black. The staff are really friendly and very helpful (my mum was late back from the gift shop, and they waited patiently for her to return before setting off again after a break stop).... Lovely experience. Great for children.

Walking distance from Llanberis. There is a car park for £4 per day and some other attractions. The usual gift shop but the cafe was much better. Everyone was friendly and the driver was particularly interesting, explaining all about the engine and the history of the line. We also got to pose in the engine for photos. Unremarkable but interesting ride. Only toilets are in the car park but free.

This is certainly another fantastic railway with great scenery across the lake and the Snowdonia mountain range in the background. The trip up the track from Llanberis goes all the way up to the end of the track, without stopping up to Penllyn, The train then turns back and stops at all the stations on the way back. You can get off at Gilfach Ddu for the cafe, shop, Welsh Slate Museum (separate review) and either take the train back to Llanberis or walk back. It's certainly worth the £7.50 for adults for this trip, as you can do what we did and do the railway, the Welsh Museum and Dolbadarn Castle (separate review) all in one trip. I can't see why people can this railway a bad review.

We were two disabled ladies, one in a wheelchair and the guard was very helpful. We were put in the wheelchair carriage which was an observation carriage so we really had a good view of the lake and mountains. Would srongl;y recommend if you want a day out and you are disabled, also very good vor anyone.

My wife and I just turned up, not having realized the railway existed! We found that it took about an hour for the trip along the lake, returning to your start point. I was on a disability scooter, and was surprised to find that they had a special carriage that would take wheelchairs and scooters. Everyone was very helpful, including placing a short ramp for the scooter and moving the seats (which were hinged) to suit us. It was all very pleasant, made more so by the ready assistance that was available.

The cost was low (£6.90 each at the concessionary rate), and the views were very nice. For some reason, it's always nice to go on a steam train! At the Gilfach Ddu station where we got on (by the slate museum), there was a gift shop and a good-sized cafe, though the latter was very busy so we didn't try it.

All in all, a pleasant way to spend an hour or so.
