“Excellent value morning coffee with the car park coupon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2013

I only went there to kill time while waiting for the Snowdon mountain train because the £7 car park ticket had a £4 redeemable coupon at The Royal Victoria. The marketing ruse worked, I felt too mean to just pay £1 for my coffee and scone once the coupon was taken into account so I paid £2...I had the coffee and the delicious scone served with proper clotted cream in the hotel's vast lounge bar on my own ( it was just after 10 AM) and most guests were in the process of checking out. The waiter was friendly and I enjoyed the view over the hotel grounds. It's definitely worth cashing in this car park coupon to prevent any bitterness vis a vis the cost of going up Snowdon on the mountain train.

I totally agree the hotel is in need of a good up grade..... but our room (room 234) was very clean and very comftable. We didn't have a view from our window but that didn't dampen or spoil our stay.
Considering the hotel has 100's of hill walkers walking through the doors I thought it considerably clean.
My experiance in this hotel was a very pleasent one. The staff were brilliant, they were very helpful very polite and very accomadating.
We stayed for two nights. The food was brilliant, both our evening meals and breakfasts were delicious.
I have absolutely no complaints and would happily recommend this hotel!!

Stayed two nights in this quiet hotel, inside the Snowdonia National Park. Built in the Victorian age and added to since. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

The hotel is very quiet, with a mix of singles, families, couples, and elderly. Read somewhere, about it being a place for "old folks". Not true in our experience. The other guesst were very friendly, and easily struck up a conversation.

The room itself was clean, well kept, comfortable - if small, but more then adequate for our needs.

The breakfasts, that we're included in Our booking couldn't have been better. You have to try the cooks breakfasts.

Ate one dinner therein the pub. Very good selection on the menu, and very reasonably priced.

Unfortunately, we were not able to take advantage of the afternoon tea service, due to the timing of our day trips.

Ruined castle on the grounds of the hotel, a five minute walk away, an interesting 30 min excursion.

The hotel is nicely located for a 15 minute walk to the high street, and almost directly across the street from the train that you Alan take to the summit of the mountain.

One the unique things is the ability to watch the sheep playing/eating in the gardens.

The view from the hotel, down towards the lake or up into the mountains is breath-taking.

The staff are friendly and helpful - when you can get to talk to them......
This hotel promises so much - a fantastic location, lovely eating area off the main dining room with views down the lake and a good breakfast (when it comes). The beds were comfortable and a fan was supplied for the unusual 'heatwave' which at least moved the air around the hot and stuffy attic rooms - so why the low score? Hoards of children via international coach parties who were loud, noisy and poorly supervised by the adult 'staff' - the reception area was taken over (one of the few places to access the hotel's wifi) the lounge areas were taken over leaving the bar as the only sanctuary - this was fine for us but impossible if you had under age children. The early check out ensured guests were woken by the noise of large cases being dragged down the stairs! The Bathrooms were very dated, smelt stale & no door locks & in one case no handle (reported but not repaired) - the shower worked but was disappointing & drained very slowly. The squeaking & loose floorboards were awful and we felt so sorry for anyone in the rooms under ours. Never returning to this hotel - On the plus side - we found some great places to eat and stay in the future! See the Church at Capel Curig!

Room Tip: Avoid the attic rooms (300's) - miles to walk, hot stuffy & floor squeaks

A fantastic find on the back of our 3 peak challenge. The hotel is in a great location and whilst the decor is dated somewhat, it did the job perfectly. Check in staff and restaurant staff were really friendly and accommodating and the rooms were adequate for what we needed.

The food (evening meal and breakfast) were both very good and very well priced, no surprise that the restaurant seemed busy.

Check out was a breeze and if we're back down Snowdon way again, we wouldn't be looking anywhere else.

Anyone who grew up in the 80's will remember those cheap water pistols you would get from the corner shop, well the shower was like being squirted by an unpleasant fat kid hiding behind the neighbours wall. It also took about 15 minutes for any warm water to come out.
I found a fine collection of dried pasta, crisps and sweet wrappers next to the bedside table.
The pillows, gold bed decorations and mirror sported some unsavoury stains. And the provided fan was about as useful as the shower.
Breakfast was also a dismal affair, I'm not sure which of our European neighbours would eat such a poor selection of cereals for breakfast. So to fill me up before attempting Crib Goch i went for the Eggs Benedict, one overcooked egg, one almost raw, cold ham, cold muffin and tepid sauce. The waitor asked if everything was ok so i pointed him towards the pool of egg white, his reaction was hmmmmmmm.
A shame really as the hotel building and location are fantastic from outside.

Hi
Just returned from a weekend at the The Victoria Hotel with another couple. We booked the Hotel as it is ideally place to walk up Snowdon and they had a great B & B Diner and Wine deal. We had a great time the staff were so friendly and the Hotel was tidy and clean. Keep up the good work some of the larger chains could learn from the staff attitude.
Many thanks great weekend
