We spent 3 days last week at this hotel and were very pleasantly surprised after reading some of the reviews on here. The best description would be 'faded elegance', but that is only cosmetic. The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly and welcoming.

We had a room on the third floor which was fully equipped with a tea and coffee tray, flat-screen TV, a large very comfortable bed and a re-furbished bathroom. The view was over the mountains and the car park below.

The weather undoubtedly was a bonus as it was gloriously sunny and warm, but we wouldn't hesitate to go back to the RV again. As soon as it is smartened up it will be more expensive, but will also have lost some of its character.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review, your positive comments about our staff and food are much appreciated. The hotel is currently working through an inhouse refurbishment programme, concentrating at the moment on our public areas, but we do hope not to loose the charm and character that is Royal Victoria.

We stayed at the Royal Vic, particularly to go up the Snowdon railway, and this is just next door - most convenient. There's also a good walk through the hotel grounds to Dolbadarn Castle (13th c), returning to the village via the former slate mine.
There was good tourist information available in the hotel.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. Royal Victoria is fortunate to be located in a stunning part of the country with lots of attractions in the area, we are also fortunate to have Dolbadarn castle situated in our grounds. We hope that you will choose to stay at Royal Victoria on any future visits to north Wales.

Booked a four night break last week for my first visit to North Wales although my wife had previously stayed at this hotel with some friends. A thoroughly enjoyable stay with all staff, Reception, Dining Room, Bar and Cleaning being welcoming, friendly and conversational at all times. Really impressed with their attitude.. Our room on the top floor was clean and tidy with a very large bed and the bathroom (smallish) was spotless. The room would, however, benefit from a little more storage space
Unusually it took two lifts to get to the room, with a walk between them and the corridors were a bit confusing for the first 24 hours but actually this seemed to add to the charm of this somewhat old-fashioned (in the nicest sense) establishment. There is re-furbishment needed to some areas but I did see painters around the place, so this may be in hand.
We had booked DB & B, the Dining rooms and Conservatory had well laid tables, nicely spaced and for Breakfast there was a good selection of drinks, fruits, cereals etc., make your own toast and order your cooked meal at the table. Well served and presented, invariably with a smile. a most pleasant start to the day.The evening meal was chosen from a varied menu, our compliments to the kitchen staff for the quality of what they provided on a daily basis.
The hotel is in an excellent situation, almost opposite the Mountain Railway, amid stunning scenery and not far from the coast. The area has a very interesting industrial history, visit the National Slate Museum nearby and don't miss trips on the Snowdon and Festiniog Railways for their scenic views.

Room Tip: Book a front facing room if possible

On the 25th of May a group of 56 of us where booked into the hotel to do a charity walk up Snowdon for cancer most of the people stayed Friday and sat me and my wife only stayed Saturday night we couldn’t check in first thing because to early...met with group done walk up and down Snowdon very tired when arrived back at hotel we were gave our keys and proceeded to our room with the only thing on our mind was a soak in the bath and a rest...opened the door to find someone in our room was very embarrassing very tired and exhausted we had to wait for someone from reception to come up and sort out mess. They had double book our room and put down to computer error ROOM WAS BOOKED SIX MONTHS AGO ...was given second room at back of hotel facing a brick wall and a big extractor fan outside of window with no bath just shower if you can call it that. Wife was devastated all she wanted was a bath. too tired to complain rested up..come to make cup of tea later only one cup after further investigation we had been given a single room no explanation no apologies we paid for double and was put in a single threw there ERROR...even at breakfast we were questioned two people for breakfast with room number for single person..breakfast was small but ok..we didn't complain next morning because reception was very busy and didn't want to cause a Sean we waited to we got home then when wife got back to work she talked to the lady who done the bookings and she rung hotel and complained ...the hotel said we don't do things like that and would look into it ..we rang at a later date to see what was going on and they had changed there mind and said they are not going to do anything about it because we didn't complain on the day so there not interested...DISCUSTING ATTITUDE.we had 54 people in there hotel for two nights thats 54 that will not be returning on our next walk ..

Thank you for taking the time to write your review, please accept my apologies for any shortcomings you experienced during your stay. Specific room numbers for bedrooms are not allocated until a few days prior to arrival as group bookings can change many times before arrival, however you should not have been given a room that was already occupied. All single rooms in the hotel have just one single bed, our records show that the room you stayed in was a standard double room, I'm sure that reception would have found you an alternative room had they been made aware of your concerns. If you wish to discuss this matter further please do not hesitate to contact me by email to deputy@theroyalvictoria.co.uk

With friends, we stayed two nights in order to climb Snowdon on the middle day (a Sunday). The hotel is ideally located for those wanting to climb the most popular longer, but slightly less steep route (Llanberis Path), as there is only a couple of hundred metre walk to the start. No further transport required. To climb the second most popular route (Pyg and Miners) then transport is needed to the start, and if taking a private car I recommend you be at the start early unless you are prepared to park a couple of miles away given the limited amount of parking on these narrow roads once the requisite number of spaces in the small car park have already been taken.

The hotel is a three star hotel which charges approx £40 per night for room including breakfast. At this price it is good value for money and in my opinion a three star rating is about right. It is quite a sprawling hotel. It is pet friendly (providing your pet is a dog!) and as we took our small dog we were charged an extra £10 per night, which I thought reasonable, and we had to sleep in a room in the annex. Actually, although the room was small, we got a great night's sleep unlike the rest of our friends who were constantly woken up during the night with the banging and slamming of doors. A lot of people climb "the three peaks" usually finishing with Snowdon, so quite a number of exuberant climbers who have successfully managed all three tend to celebrate into the small hours, especially on Saturday nights. Be warned!

The staff in the hotel are all extremely friendly (at least the ones we came across were anyway) and the food is very good indeed. If its warm weather then when sitting out on the lawn you have a great view of the village and the mountains beyond.

The service in the restaurant(s) however is slow and somewhat unpredictable. We didn't always get what we had ordered and on one occasion there was a 30 minute wait between some of us getting our main course, and the rest of our small party (8 people) getting their's which was not acceptable. This is a large hotel and they often have big groups (in our case one school and also one charity group of 150 people staying) and in our opinion there are not enough chefs/cooks or serving staff to cope. The furnishings (carpet, chairs, walls) all had a bit of a tired and frayed look and the whole place could do with smartening up.

On balance I would recommend this as a base location if planning to climb Snowdon as it is good value for what you get and is ideally located, but I can see why it hasn't got any more stars.

The Royal Victoria is a wonderful pile of Victorian architecture, full of character, with great grounds and beautiful views. The bars are friendly and informal - there's even a pool table. Breakfast offered plenty of choice, and it was nice to be served at the table by the keen staff. Evening dinner was great, but best to book. Ask for the conservatory if you like a view, but bear in mind it may get warm in there.
Our rooms were in the annex, which is a fair walk through the hotel to reach. We simply went outside and then back in again through the annex's own entrance. The rooms are dated, and the corridors have a very musty smell, but everything worked. There was a hospitality tray (tea, coffee etc), shower gel, TV and iron/ironing board.
On our Snowdon walking day, we caught the Sherpa bus from Llanberis to Pen-y-Pass (only £1 each), walked up the Pyg Track, then down the Llanberis Track, which will bring you straight back to the hotel - ideal.
It was a great stay and I'd happily stay there again. I couldn't bring myself to give the hotel a `very good' rating based purely on the dire need to refurbish most of it, but the service, hospitality and location and are all good.
.......... by the way, our stay coincided with the 3 peaks challenge, which led to a lot of noise in the early hours of the morning. There was even a generator running right outside our room to floodlight the car park when we were trying to sleep. A bit of consideration and forewarning would have been nice........

Thank you for reviewing Royal Victoria Hotel Snowdonia, I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed all aspects of your stay. The hotel is working through an inhouse refurbishment programme to freshen up the area's required and I hope that you will see evidence of this next time you choose to stay with us. There was indeed a three peaks event taking place at the hotel during the weekend, this event has taken place at the hotel for the previous two years without any problems of noise, we are currently working with the event organisers to ensure that the same problem does not happen again next year.

A small group of us stayed here for two nights all inclusive for £94 and it was great value for money! The hotel is right at the bottom of the Llanberis Path and close to the Mountain Railway. The room was clean and plenty of hot water in the nice bathroom. The food was good and the staff were great except for one of the receptionists who let the side down. We will definitely be returning and recommend this hotel as a perfect place to stay in North Wales.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay on our All Inclusive package, which provides a great value for money break. I was disappointed to hear that one of our reception staff let us down on friendliness which is something that Royal Victoria prides itself on but so glad that you will choose to stay with us again.
