On a recent trip to Snowdonia I was hoping to use this railway as I have never climbed Snowdon. Sadly was unable to go as no dogs were allowed. Such a shame as I was really looking forward to this

Due to the comfort and safety of all of our passengers and staff, we only allow registered guide dogs on our trains. We’re a heritage narrow gauge mountain railway so we are restricted for space inside our carriages.

We took the steam train as we wanted to experience it. Luckily we had pre-booked it as all trains were fully booked on that day (which we understood is the case every day). The train was on time and is closed from all sides so no worry about the weather. The views keep getting spectacular as you climb higher. Once you reach the summit, the cold weather hits you like a tornado, so be fully covered before stepping out. On a good day, the views are stunning but if you get fog it wouldn't be much fun. The tickets are quite steeply priced (about £130 for a family of 4), so please check the weather before going there. Franky we have seen other mountain peaks (Chamonix Mont Blanc is much better) and could have given this one a miss

We booked the steam train in advance and so glad we did as it was a sell out on the date.

The steam train itself is very authentic along with the carriages that you travel up on.

As we went in late October there was snow and ice at the summit and it was very slippery.

The views are amazing from the train and at the summit. Well woth the money and fun was had by all.

Booked the steam railway as a birthday gift. We were lucky to get the tickets the day before as I had checked many times on the website and it said sold out to till the end of the season. The steam engine ticket at £37 per person is more expensive then the diesel train which is £29 per person however I would recommend booking the steam train. You have allocated seating whereas the seating in the diesel train looked very cramped.

You get some breathtaking views as you climb up the mountain. Try to get the seat on the right side of the train as the views are better and request a window seat when you are booking your tickets.

We were lucky that the weather was good and we were able to see some beautiful views. Once you reach the summit you only get 30 mins before returning back. Which I felt was insufficient time. It would be good to get at least an hour at the top of the mountain to properly enjoy the views and take them in rather then rushing. Alternatively if you can, consider walking down. We regretted not doing that.

All in all it was a lovely journey. If you are with children, take plenty of snacks and something to keep them entertained as they may get bored on the journey back as you get the same views.

This is always a great outing regardless of the weather. There is something mystical about Snowdon. Pity the clouds didn't lift again for this our third trip up. Maybe next time! More time at the summit would be an improvement.

Wonderful experience, great little railway with informative staff could not be more helpful. Booked the tickets on the internet,so went to collect on the day and that was so simple.Just one criticism is that 30mins at the top is tight by the time you have climbed to the top and back you don’t get much time for a snack.

Snowdon mountain railway is a must when you visit Wales, it was a definite on my bucket list and I was not disappointed. Got tickets on the diesel coach on a bright sunny day and was absolutely mesmerized by the beauty of the mountains. The ascent was absolutely amazing with a couple of stoppages for stations. Once reaching the summit, we were greeted by more breathtaking views. We descended on our return on the train but it is advisable to ascend by train and descend by walking to make the most of it.

Lovely trip thru the Snowdon National Park over the mountains and down to the coast. Even had refreshments available onboard.

Thanks for the review, although we're not sure this is meant for Snowdon Mountain Railway as we do not have refreshments available on-board. We are a heritage narrow gauge mountain railway that takes passengers to the summit of Snowdon.

We booked online a few weeks before our visit and would highly recommend that you would need to do so. It takes about an hour to reach the top and the same again coming down. The views are absolutely amazing, you don't know which way to look for the best one. It was a very enjoyable experience only spoilt by the car parking which is £8 and spaces unmarked with some car owners taking up almost the room for two cars also full of potholes and puddles.

We're glad to heat you enjoyed your visit. The car park you are referring to is not owned or operated by Snowdon Mountain Railway, we have our own car park behind the station on Victoria Terrace (LL55 4TY).
