Our family of four (kids aged 9 & 13) took the train up Snowdon and then hiked down the mountain. The train ride was quite expensive & the narrative was very difficult to hear. However, since the hike down was exhausting and took nearly 3 hours, we were very glad we hadn't tried to walk both directions. The path is quite steep and slippery at some points so it is definitely important to have shoes with good traction. Beautiful views and great exercise make this a wonderful family adventure.

My husband and I took a ride on the steam train to the top of Snowdon. We hadn't been up there for years and I absolutely loved it. The trains were very efficiently run and were very clean. It takes an hour to get up there. The Summit cafe was just as efficiently run and I was impressed that even though we were a captive audience up there the prices were very reasonable. My husband walks with a stick and didn't walk the last bit. I nervously did it and was glad that I did.
Sadly there is always someone up there who leaves their litter lying around despite available recycling.

If you take the trip please remember leave nothing but footprints and take your rubbish home.

Take something warm with you to the top, and in this current warm weather make sure you have some water. Its a bit cramped in the train on the way to the top.

This is the 3rd time I have gone up Snowdon on the Railway and then walked down. The new trains are not as cramped as the old wooden ones. The views are spectacular, even on a misty day. We were lucky to be seated behind the Guard and could see the track as we climb. The journey takes 1hr and you have 30mins at the top if you are not walking down, you can take longer, but you may not be able to get a train back. The path down is uneven so walking boots are advisable and allow plenty of time to walk back, 2hrs is not long enough unless you are fit and don't stop to take photos.
