“Cheap and cheerful....”
Reviewed November 4, 2012 via mobile

Probably best to say at the outset, this is not a glamorous campsite, it is a farmers field with a shower block. There were sheep in the field (though could have gone to a different field further away from farmhouse and it was technically past the end of the open season), facilities such as a bar or shop are a ten minute walk into the village. But at £10 a night for two of us, it represents good value.

As far as facilities go, there are toilets, sinks, water tap and coin operated showers. The fields are generally sloping and it might be harder to find a flat spot in the busy season, there are several pita for camp fires be logs are available from the farmer. Torches are essential as it is unlit at night.

The views are spectacular looking down on the village and across the lake to the old slate quarries on the other side, from the other direction you look straight up towards Snowdon and you can cut a section off from the llanberis path and join it further up by going across the fields. The farmer was very friendly and whilst it was quiet on site (not surprising as it was November) the other campers were friendly and I guess that generally this site will attract campers who appreciate the simple pleasures of camping.

The campsite is in a great location - only about a 10 - 15 minute walk until you're walking up Snowdon.

The showers cost £1 and £0.50 respectively and are perfectly acceptable and were always clean.

Firewood is available at £6 per bag.

The one bad thing about the campsite is that it is very sloped; I wasn't initially aware of which fields were OK to camp on so I just set up on the main field which resulted in a few nights of bad sleep.

The owner also gave a discounted rate because we were students which I was impressed with.

Room Tip: Be aware that there are many more than just the one field that you can camp on and the main field is...

We have stayed in Llwyn Celyn Bach in May 2012 - it was a flying visit only so we had somewhere to put our heads down whilst marching up and down Snowdon in preparation for the Three Peaks Challenge.
Due to work commitment we have arrived very late - it was past 10pm. The owner of the campsite was only concerned with getting our tents up as it was raining and pitch black. We have payed later on and neither the lack of payment or late arrival were a problem.
The showers and toliets are very clean though you do have to pay to use the shower. Each time one of us visited they were spotless though (not an easy task with rain pouring and muddy trails).
As the website warns you, the campsite is located on a farm so expect some noise early in the morning - this is usual on a farm and most people do not mind for the price, as the overnight stay has only cost us £10 - always check the website for the prices.
We didn't find that other campers were a problem - everyone seemed polite and friendly, but I suppose you can never guarantee company!
The only negative really is that the field we stayed in was on a hill - makes sleeping in a tent tricky but we were so tired we managed to cope and sleep anyway.
Would definitely recommend if you are in need of a cheap, overnight stay - the owners are lovely and for the price, you will struggle to find anywhere at such close proximity to Snowdon paths (about 10 minute walk to Llanberis path).
