We really enjoyed our stay here. We were welcomed by the friendly owner Gwawr with refreshments and welsh cakes and useful information about the area. Our room was very spacious and comfortable, with an additional dressing area and steps leading to the bathroom. The view from the room was lovely overlooking the Lledr valley in a peaceful quiet, location with scenic walks to the Conwy Falls and Fairy Glen, but not far from Betws- y- Coed. We awoke to the sound of an orchestra of birdsong from the adjacent woods. Choices for breakfast were very good and we were pleased with the vegetarian breakfast with homemade glamorgan sausages.

We really recommend Pengwern for a relaxing break. comfort and peaceful surroundings and for the warm hospitality from the owners.

To break-up the journey from London to Holyhead my wife and I decided to stay overnight in Snowdonia. Having spent hours on the internet trying to find an ideal B&B that was prepared to take a single night booking we were delighted to book in at the Pengwern Country House. From the initial email and phone call with Gwawr, the owner, (and the subsequent detailed booking confirmation email) I knew I had made the right decision.
We were greeted with a very welcoming pot of tea and Welsh Cakes and were then shown up to the wonderful Richard Gay Somerset Room, which was perfect. The views in the late afternoon were impressive but were surpassed by the scene that met us when we drew the curtains in the morning – looking down the valley to see a rainbow coming to ground was breath-taking.
Gwawr was the perfect hostess giving just the right level of attentiveness without being intrusive. And the Welsh breakfast was the ideal way to carry on the day.
My wife and I would not hesitate to return to the Pengwern Country House – next time we will try to stay a lot longer!

We stayed at Pengwern over the Valentine's weekend. The house was warm and welcoming as was the host, Gwawr, nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was delicious, homemade and fresh.

The room (four poster) was immaculate and the bed very comfortable. The little touches and attention to detail were what made our break really enjoyable. I wouldn't hesistate in recommending Pengwern to anyone looking for a quite, romantic breakaway!

My husband and I stayed here 2 days after our wedding as a mini honeymoon; the area was recommended to us by a friend and was all booked last minute. Gwaar (the owner) was superb on the phone, really helpful and sent a booking confirmation email to me immediately.
On arriving at the house, we were greeted by Gwaar who sat us in the guests lounge (TV, DVDs, board games etc) with a pot of tea and Welsh Cakes - delicious!
We stayed in the Richard Gay Somerset Room which has a "loo with a view" and it was fabulous. The views were amazing, the room was comfy and very clean with tea making facilities and a lovely roll top bath - bliss! No TV but it was nice to be away from it for a few days. The room even had dressing gowns in the bathroom, and as it was our mini honeymoon, a bottle of champagne was put in our room, which we thought was a lovely touch.
Gwaar was very helpful during our stay, advising where was good to eat in the town and what attractions were good to see. The breakfasts were to die for, and you could choose whether you had a full breakfast (vegetarian option available) or just poached eggs etc. Gwaar's breakfasts set you up for the day and were delicious, especially the homemade vegetarian sausages!
We went for a walk to Fairy Glen and Gwaar packed us a lunch to take, with drinks, sandwiches, fruit, crisps and to my delight Cadbury's Chocolate Eclairs in the bottom of the bag too!
My husband and I would not hesitate to return to Pengwern House as Gwaar and her husband were so lovely and welcoming, and we recommend it to anyone and everyone we meet.

The Pengwern Country House B&B was just perfect! Beautiful location, great views, lovely room! The hosts were delightful and couldn't have been more helpful without being at all intrusive.
I would definitely recommend this B&B. It is welcoming, comfortable, clean, the breakfast was fantastic! Try the home made vegetarian sausages!!! They're delicious!
There's no TV in the bedrooms but the lounge downstairs has satellite TV with comfy sofas and a roaring fire!
I'm reluctant to add this bit, but the only slight downside to this idyllic accommodation is that the short walk down into Betws-y-Coed is along the road and the footpath stops shorly after the B&B so its a walk on the road itself which wasn't pleasant. Or a designated non drinking driver!
But all in all, this place is perfect!!

Just got back from a week staying at Pengwern in North Wales.
We stayed in the self-catering studio (sleeps 2 on double bed) attached to the main house - which was perfect to allow space and privacy, but you have the very helpful and friendly owners right next door should you have any queries (or need help to get the log fire going!).
Our main purpose for the week was to explore the excellent mountain biking trails in the area, which we thoroughly enjoyed.
But even better was coming back at the end of a cold, wet ride to this cosy little cottage - conveniently located and superbly furnished.Highly recommended - we will visit again!

We were very lucky to secure a booking for the May Bank Holiday. Pengwern Country House is ideally situated just a short distance from Betws-y-Coed. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted with a lovely cup of tea and snack. Our room, the Maggie Plas, was suitably romantic with it's four poster bed and charming character. The breakfasts were excellent and widely varied, catering both to vegetarian and non-vegetarian requirements. The atmosphere at Pengwern is both tranquil and relaxed and our hosts were always graciously on hand to offer any guidance or answer any questions. I would strongly recommend this B&B to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway. I felt fully recharged after a couple of days and did not want to return to London. We look forward to returning someday soon.
