We stayed at this great B&B our second time in Betws-y-Coed and will definitely do so again the next time we visit (unfortunately limited by business trips to London - though we're now considering flying to the UK just to go back to Wales.)
We drove up from London and were welcomed with tea and cake by Gwawr Mowatt, one of the owners. She was very friendly and accommodating (for example making a great vegetarian breakfast for one of us, and hunting down kippers on our last day for the other - even though they were out of season.)
The room and (private) bathroom was bright, comfortable and very clean. It was very quiet and peaceful, and it felt like we were in our own house - which is very rare for B&B's where you sometimes feel as if you're somehow intruding.
The price was very reasonable, especially considering the quality of the house, grounds and breakfast. The previous time we went to Betws-y-Coed we stayed at another place that was very expensive, so were expecting a lot, yet the room turned out to be small and very fussy, and the owners quite prissy. Pengwern is the exact opposite and a real find. We looked in at all the better hotels and B&B's in the area and couldn't find anything that we'd remotely prefer to staying here.
We've included a few photos we took. They do not really do it justice - there are better ones at the Pengwern website. In any case, there are larger rooms, but we preferred this one because of the great light.
