“Third visit this year and still outstanding in every respect”

It's hard to find more superlatives for this hotel. The setting is fantastic, staff are exceptional, accommodation is excellent , We have stayed in the ground floor river view room twice and it's ideal because we are both disabled. It's all on one level and the room is very well appointed and comfortable.with a great view. Food is excellent as usual and the sausages at breakfast are now spot on! Dinner is always excellent with ample quantities and we particularly liked the home made bread fresh every day The choice of eating in the restaurant or the bar is great as it adds even more to the variety of menu. Sorry no photos this visit as the weather was not to kind. Still the best we have found. We'll be back again in the spring.

Room Tip: River view rooms are the best option

My wife and I have stayed in this fantastic hotel several times over the years on our trips to the UK, it's in a great location and our stays have always been excellent. Prior to our recent stay it had been 4 years since we last had the opportunity to visit and we were both highly impressed this time around with both the new restaurant and room refurbishments. Having eaten just days before in one of the worldwide top 10 Asian restaurants in Hong Kong, we were going to take some impressing with the restaurant meals but over two nights the chefs ensured we will remember our nights in Craig-y-Dderwen as our 'food highlight' of this holiday! The rooms had been beautifully refurbished since our last visit and the large, comfortable beds meant that after several days travelling we gained our first decent nights sleep since leaving home. Having both stayed regularly in 5 star accommodation in many countries throughout the world we are pleased to see the hotel now has a 4 star rating. It can't be long until someone realises it should be rated higher as in our opinion many 5 star hotels in the UK and overseas would not come close, particularly in terms of service which this time as before was friendly, attentive and helpful. We will be back again and would strongly recommend to overseas travellers thinking of coming to this beautiful part of the UK that you add this hotel to your itinerary - just not when we want to stay!

This hotel is a great little find. We have been twice as a large group. Once we took a dog. The hotel staff can't do enough for you. Everyone is so friendly and polite. We have only stayed in the riverview rooms but they're gorgeous. Huge and lovely views of the river, funnily enough. This is a perfect location for climbing Snowdon. The food is fantastic. And if you're lucky enough, they'll put on the log fire for you!!

Room Tip: Go for a riverview

The hotel is beautifully sited making great use of the wonderful views over the river. Staff were exceptionally helpful making us feel like old friends though it was our first visit. Everything was clean and fresh and pleasantly decorated.
The food was very good but limited "healthy" choices so that after 3 or 4 days a light option would have been welcome. Breakfast was excellent with tremendous choice from well made porridge to kedgeree with all the usual options in between, including good coffee, often the let down in other hotels. Delicious and unusual teas were also on offer, Rooibos with plum and cinnamon for example.
The drawback was that we were not aware that the disabled room was accessed from outside, this meant a 30yd walk or wheel in the rain! Not ideal as wet wheelchair wheels mean wet and muddy clothes; umbrellas were provided but you can't use one either wheeling or pushing a wheelchair or in the strong winds that prevailed while we were there.
The disabled room was good but the wet room would have benfitted from a curtain round the shower otherwise the wheelchair and towels get rather wet if you don't have someone to take them away and bring them back when needed. Anyone with grip problems would find the shower taps very difficult to turn with soapy hands as I did. More grab handles and a proper drop down support in the toilet would also have helped.
The hotel wasn't hard to find but beware that our sat nav always tried to take us in by a back route which has no way into the hotel grounds.
Overall an excellent hotel and we wouldn't hesitate to return.

We stayed for four nights at this hotel, we had a standard room which was small but had nice decor and good furnishings. But the shower over the bath was fixed to the taps and kept going scolding hot and very cold when other guests in the hotel turned their taps on which wasn't a nice experience. The TV was a flat screen but the picture kept braking up due to poor reception. Our room was above the kitchens, so if you don't mind low humming from the appliances, then it is fine. The breakfast was good apart from the sausages which were very bland and tastless for local produce which is poor. The staff were very freindly and polite and suggested places to visit which was nice. The location of the hotel and it surroundings were great, especially if you can get a table in the restaurant over looking the river.

Room Tip: Standard rooms are nice but you have to pay rather more to look over the river

We chose this hotel because it offered both disabled access (for my 90-year-old mum), and it welcomed dogs. The hotel was excellent – a lovely setting, friendly, helpful staff and extra sausages for the dog (I didn't eat the full breakfast, so he had a 'doggy' bag).

My husband and I have recently returned from a 4-night break at Craig-y-Dderwen Hotel. The hotel was scrupulously clean, warm and friendly. Staff were unfailingly polite and friendly - especially Linden, Rhodri and Guy; breakfast was lovely - loads of choice and all well cooked and hot (when it needed to be); we ate every evening at the hotel and each meal was excellent. Our only complaint was that some other guest in a room near to us had a radio or television on until 3.30am each night, and it was just loud enough to prevent you from sleeping soundly! (Cheers, mate!)
The setting of the hotel was beautiful - we had a fab view of the river and woodlands from our bedroom window.
If we were to holiday up here in the future, we would have no hesitation in booking this hotel again. They deserve to be successful as they put so much effort in!
