Conwy Valley Railway Museum & Model Shop

The Railway Museum, and model shop, in Betws-y-Coed, are most easily accessed from the Station Platform, over the old footbridge. It makes most sense, then, to visit the village by using the Conwy Valley Railway line, which is supported by the local council, and trains leave from Llandudno, Deganwy, and Llandudno Junction, all of which have plenty of parking. You can either stop in Betws, or break there before travelling on to Blaenau Ffestiniog to join the world famous Ffestiniog Railway to Porthmadog. Whatever, a great railway focussed day out, our 5 year old grand-daughter loved it, we spent a few hours in Betws, visiting the railway museum, little train and tram rides, (one operated by the children themselves), and walkin along the footpath by the river towards Swallow Falls). Inexpensive, and very enjoyable.

The Conwy Valley Railway Museum & Model Shop is OK. My 5 year old and 2.5 year old boys enjoyed it. You have to walk through the model shop to get to the museum which consists of a few dusty railway models, some of which will move if you stick 50p in. There is also a quarter sized steam train replica of Britannia which is the 'star' attraction.

Outside is a miniature train which takes you on a 5 minute trip for £1.50 each. This again was enjoyable for the kids but not worth making a special trip for.

If you have young children who are interested in anything train related they will enjoy it.

NOTE: the only toilets are in the back of the museum however if you ask they don't charge you to enter the museum to use the toilet.

Was expecting more of a museum than a model shop. After really enjoying Rhyl minature railway we decided to give the mini train a miss as worked out quite costly for the 7 of us for only a few minutes. Also you have to pay for the museum and railway separately which was just not worth it for us.

My son really enjoyed it. A must if you are travelling with the family. A great value little attraction, and a brilliant ten minutes (ish) ride on a mini train for £1.50 per person.

Next to the miniature train is a converted old style train carriage that has turned cafe.

Would go again and definitely worth popping to see if you are in Betws-y-coed.

Not much there, wouldn't say its an attraction at all, but it killed a few minutes whilst we were waiting for candles to be made at the shop around the corner.
