“Clean and comfortable but service and food are poor”
Reviewed November 25, 2012

We stayed in the low season, so the hotel was quiet - as in we barely saw any other guests and were the only people in the huge breakfast room each morning!
Our room was very comfortable and clean and it was nice to have the deep bath after we'd been out walking in the rain.
We ate in the bar on the first night. I wouldn't recommend this unless you're happy with very basic pub grub. The food was mediocre and the atmosphere was awful. It was pretty empty and cold - the same as the 'tavern' room where breakfasts were. I guess this would be better in peak season.
Given that there were so few guests, you would expect attentive service, but we didn't really receive service at all. In particular, at breakfast we were told by the waitress that the menus were on the counter and we could come and tell her what we wanted when we'd had a look at them.
This place is OK for the low price, the room was nice but I'd recommend eating elsewhere. The Ty Gwyn up the road was lovely, really friendly with a great log fire. They have rooms for not a lot more money so I think I would stay there in future.

We stayed in the YHA which forms part of the complex. Whilst basic the rooms are of a generous size were clean and warm. The hotel has some interesting benefits including a sauna, table tennis room and sports facilities. The staff were very helpful.

We ate breakfast and dinner at the hotel and it was generally good with big portions.

We didn't stay in the hotel but we did eat in the pub twice because we thought it was extremely good value and also very tasty. If, like us, you were a bit loose with the purse strings in some of the pricier establishments and wanted a cheaper option, then this is the place for you! The menu offers a two for ten pound option - with a wide selection of pub classics to choose from. From Chilli Con Carne to Lamb Hot Pot, there is enough selection to impress even the fussiest of punter. My other half enjoyed the fact that there were nicely cooked peas.

As a slight aside, despite the good value, portions could be slightly bigger. As a larger man, I went away a little bit underfed and as a result positively gorged myself on my B&Bs selection of free biscuits.

The pub is in close proximity to the magnificent Swallow Falls and is therefore a good choice if you have just made the 2 mile treck up from the village. If you fancy, the pub has a pool table and a duke box, which we spent many a happy hour on.

Very clean, comfortable & comfortable hotel, the staff were great and so was the food. Couldn't believe the price 60GBP for the 2 of us including hot breakfast. Had dinner in the hotel, again great food. Across the road from the Swallow waterfalls well worth a look. The hotel is a little dated but we wished we could have stayed for more than one night.

I got this trip for my husband as a birthday present on Groupon site, £139 for 3 nights. We went to Beews-y-Coed on 11-14 November. The village itself is very nice and cosy was still in bright autumn colours. We got family room though it was just the two of us. Room was warm and clean and had a small kettle with everything you need to make a nice cup of tea. Hotel was surprisingly busy for this time of the year. The eating places in the village closed quite early so we had our evening meals in the hotel and were not disappointed. It was always tasty and service was quick. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. We drove to Anglesey and around Snowdonia see some castles. Magnificent nature, beautiful countryside. I would recommend this hotel to everyone, its a nice place to stay for exploring Snowdonia.

We went to Wales for the waterfalls, so staying next to one seemed like a good idea. The hotel was superbly located in Betws y Coed, or just outside. the room was clean and tidy, very spacious family room, and lovely hot shower. the main building of the hotel looks a little tired and dated, but the service was excellent and the food for breakfast was lovely.

2 minor gripes- a draft from the door whistled in, which when it is -5 degrees and a pain, and we got no ITV in our room, which was lovely cos i didnt have to watch X factor with the kids.. but was a disappointment for them.. mixed blessing!! but a little odd. i woudl happily stay here again, but havign paid £150 for 2 nights i think it was a little pricey. decent hotel slightly over-priced.. excellent location.

I paid about £100 for a two night break here with my son as he wanted to climb Snowdon. I had forgotten just how beautiful the Betws y coed area was.
The location is fantastic. On the main road just out of the village and right opposite the Swallow Falls. Absolutely ideal for Snowdon. We took the bus to Pen y Pass as the car park there where the paths to Snowdon go from, gets full very early and is £10. The bus stop is right outside the hotel and costs £1. It is only 10 minute ride to Pen y Pass. ( to digress a little, the bus driver on the way back from Snowdon was the friendliest driver I have ever met. He insisted on giving us a running commentary on local places of interest and was a real pleasure to meet)
Anyway back to the hotel. Our room was in the annex at the back. It had a double and two singles and was absolutely fine. If you want luxury, pay 5 times the price and go elsewhere. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was clean and modern. The shower was the most powerful I have ever had anywhere. Plenty of clean towels etc.
The reception and check in was very smooth and we received a very warm welcome from the charming reception lady.
I do tend to agree that the bar and the breakfast area could benefit hugely from a simple coat of white emulsion but the food was fine.
In conclusion, yes bar and breakfast area were a little tired but this was more than made up for by the very friendly staff, the excellent location and the price!

Room Tip: The annex at the back is absolutely fine.
