My fiance and I stayed at the Royal Oak Hotel for a weekend break to climb Snowdon. The hotel is located 20 mins from Snowdon and is situated in a really pretty town.

Although this hotel is rated as a 3 star, in my opinion I think this hotel should be rated as a 4 star. It is very well kept and the staff are extremely friendly. The rooms are spacious and very clean. Our only criticism would be that our room was directly above the bar attached to the hotel. We found it noisy until around 12am, but don't let this put you off, just ensure that you request a different room!! The breakfast at the hotel was excellent with a great selection of freshly cooked food. We had a meal in the Llugwy restaurant on our first night and although the food was nice we didn't think there was a particulary good selection. However, we would recommend the Bistro which is located just up the road from the hotel; a really rustic reasturant with a suberb selection of very tasty food.

Overall, we have had a fantastic break and would definately recommend this hotel. We shall be staying here again in the near future.

The shower kept going cold but it was a nice hotel and the breakfast was the best ever!! The bar was good too. The local area doesn't stay open late so it was nice that the hotel had a separate bar and grill at the side, otherwise we may have missed an evening meal one night. Definitely a nice place to stay.

My husband surprised me with a weekend away here for my birthday, and the hotel is lovely. We booked a deluxe room, which looked out onto the river in front of the hotel and was huge - four poster bed, large leather sofa and chairs, flatscreen tv. We booked to stay dinner, B&B each night, and ate in the two restaurants. You get £25 per person contribution towards your meal, not including drinks. The first night we ate in the grill, which was lovely, although we didn't use the £25 each (couldn't fit a dessert in, the portions were ginormous!), and had to pay for our drinks (small niggle, why couldn't they be included?!). The second night we ate in the restaurant, which had a set menu for £25 per head - the food was out of this world, all local produce and tasted fantastic. We ordered a bottle of champagne, which didn't have the usual hotel pricetag.
The location was lovely, although the village is very quiet. It's a great base for going hill walking etc, but don't come here if you are expecting lots of country pubs and restaurants - there is one pub in the village (which is attached to the Royal Oak Hotel), and only 2 restaurants outside of the hotel. Breakfast at the hotel was gorgeous - they need to keep hold of their chef!

Family friendly hotel, with nice clean rooms and a very comfortable bed. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast in hotel was well cooked and I really enjoyed the sausages. A big plus with this hotel is the stables bar and eatery which allows you the space and freedom, especially with a family, to eat outdoors and watch the world go by.

The park directly opposite the hotel is a great place for your children to play. Ample parking included in the price at the side and opposite the hotel.

Best hotel in betws-y-coed by a mile.

We didn't actually stay in the the Royal Oak but did spend an evening in there, first of all in the main bar/lounge area (nice and warm, with large cosy armchairs), and then in the 'Grill' restaurant (don't let the tacky neon 'Grill' sign put you off).

Not wanting to get in the way of more serious, helpful accommodation reviews, I'll keep it short and say whatever you do, have the lamb and thyme sausages with leek and potato mash. This is seriously good food folks and perfect after a cold day in the mountains.

Next time I'm there, I'll be booking a room at the Royal Oak and eating there, for sure!!

This hotel is within walking distance of all amenities in Betws-y-coed. We used this as a weekend base for climbing Snowdon which is about 30 minutes drive away.

The rooms are medium-sized, clean and were en-suite. We stayed in the building adjoining the main hotel which we weren't aware of before arrival. The only concern here was that the hotel has a policy of not allowing residents in the adjoining building access to the residents bar after 11pm. However they did agree to this after some discussion.

The public bar serves decent food and has a wide selection of lagers, ales and spirits.

The breakfast was very good, with as much continental-style food as you want, along with a cooked breakfast served at your table.

Free car parking is available at the hotel.
