A beautiful characterful hotel. Our superior room was spacious, spotless and overlooked the lovely River Llugwy. The food was excellent and the staff friendly and knowledgeable and the wi-fi was free! Would definitely recommend and look forward to returning.

We popped in here on the off chance as the £11.95 for two courses for lunch appealed to us although we didn't expect it to be good. We should have had more faith!!! It was lovely, I had Roast Lamb and the other half had Lambs Liver, both served with a large portion of fresh cooked, crisp veg and potatoes, generous portions of meat as well, for dessert we had trifle and Pannacotta with plum and ginger compote, wow, amazing value, service was good too, even though it was busy. Well done Royal Oak.
P.S We didn't stay here so can't comment on the hotel.

We booked this hotel last minute with an excellent deal. Reception very helpful arranging this. Room was a standard, but more than adequate. Plenty of space, good facilities, spotlessly clean, bath with shower. The only things that let this stay down was the entrance to the stairs was a bit cramped and I didn't like the shower curtain arrangement over the bath as it formed a small square so not much room for manoeuvre without the curtain sticking to your body.
Dinner (included in the deal) was excellen tas was breakfast. Will certainly go again if another deal
comes along.

Room Tip: The standard room was excellent- why pay more?

We didn't stay in the Hotel but we did enjoy a fantastic meal which was value for money . The staff were very friendly and attentive all evening . We went on a Saturday night , and there was a live band on who were palying outside ( under cover of course ) so it didn't feel as though they were playing right next to you while you were eating but it was loud enough to enjoy from inside .
Thank you to all the staff who looked after us and we hope to see you again soon !

We stayed at the Royal Oak for 5 nights . Room was spacious and comfortable. Bed reasonable. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is positioned well for exploring the surrounding countryside and there are some lovely local walks. We dined three nights at the hotel restaurant , food was varied and tasty and the chef was very accommodating in catering for my gluten free vegeterian needs.

My husband Mike and I stayed at the Royal Oak last Saturday and can say it was one of the nicest hotels we have stayed at. The food was amazing. He had the rack of lamb and I chose beef wellington. Absolutely no complaints about starter, main or dessert! The breakfast choice was equally as pleasing. The bed was big and comfortable, the staff were always helpful and on hand. You only need to sit and have a coffee downstairs to see how popular this hotel is. It's buzzing. It's also near the main shopping area - very convenient. We got a special price deal through Travelzoo and came from Telford just to have a special weekend at an amazing price. Good value isn't the word! I don't know how they did it all for the price. We are very grateful and will definitely be returning - through Travelzoo or not.

Room Tip: We saw an earlier review about noise but it was beautifully quiet in our room anyway. Room 239 on th...

Have stayed here on a number of occasions and had dozens of meals in the grill. However my last meal there was unspeakable. I asked for a lamb shank and received just three pieces cut off it. The dauphinoise potatoes were like a block of cement cold and raw. The accompanioning potatoes had a peculiar granular covering which also were cold and raw. The only tasty bit if the meal was the hot red cabbage. As I was not paying I could not complain but my Wife did so which was very unusual for as she never ever complains and puts it down to sods law and she will never go back again. Nevertheless she was not charged for my meal ( Hers was fine) All things being equal I probally will go back there again, fingers crossed.

Room Tip: All Rooms are fine but there is a large one facing the road which is sperb. I cannot remember which...
